Prices will go down for 2012, ladies :)

I am (was -  just closed my business) a travel agent and I feel your pain!  The Airlines and Charter companies are just getting their rates and everything going for 2012 and they always come out crazy high.

That being said, often Group Rates are more than you will find just on expedia and what-have-you.  They play off of the perk that everyone gets the same rate, and it won't go up after every few couples that book.

Even being a travel agent, I DID NOT go with a group rate.  I could not justify those prices for my group - nor was I going to put deposits down for them.  Whenever someone was ready to book, I had a look at all of the different tour operators and what schedules they had - and they picked which one they wanted.  Sure, not everyone was on the same plane, but when it saves your geusts $500 each - it really doesn't matter!

I'm hoping they go down - and one of the positives is - the TA said we are allowed ONE price drop from now until 120 days before the wedding. So maybe we'll go ahead an book it - and then wait for that price drop next year sometime.
Whats nice is that we won't lose any money on deposits if less people book. She has assured us that if we get less bookings - the left over amount will be applied to our

own package. So no worries on that one.
She explained a bit more about why the rates are a bit higher and it has to do with the grouping of rooms and seats on the plane. She said a bunch of rooms are priced at a certain amount and then another bunch of rooms are priced at a different amount...so what they do is take the average of all of them and thats the price you get. EVEN THO these rooms are the same 'category'. She said the same goes for the plane seats..and those are really what kill you in price.
She also warned me that the prices are higher right now too because of whats going on in Libya.
We'll do what we can to get a good price and if our guests are adimant about booking online then we can't stop them. We'll make them aware of the benefits of booking with the group. Its nice knowing that everyone who's booked with the group is protected if something happens (hurricane..explosion etc) and we need to change resorts...locations or dates.

Hahaha my FI laughed at me this morning when I made a similar remark ("I'm all wedding-d out") while we were registering! I wish I could fast forward the next 130 days to the wedding. I'm looking forward to being a wife, and not a bride!

Honestly - I totally know how you feel.   I was so burnt out from a year and a half of BDW and WeddingBee and planning in general....it was such a relief to be a "wife and not a bride"!

Also, add to the mix that I didn't LOVE our photos....it kinda lead to a bit of post-wedding letdown.  We have some nice stuff, but when you are looking at $5000 photographers for a year....a $1000 photog doesn't add up :)

It's all good now...onto the next chapter! :)

That's awesome!!! I LOVE Isla Mujeres...best snorkeling ever!!! It is so pretty! We have been to the Mayan area 4 times so we wanted to try something different but still something that we sort of knew, so we thought we'd go to the other side of Mexico. We are getting married at Dreams Puerto Vallarta. Can't wait!! :)

Went Dress shopping today again..feeling kind of frustrated...still haven't had that "Moment" yet!!! How am I ever going to know when it's "The ONE" ?????

Hey Pam

I know exactly how you feel.  Our week in Cuba was hectic.  We hardly had any down time. Plus when we got home my work got extremely busy.  I finally got to relax last weekend.   So sorry to hear that you are not happy with your pics.  I would be crushed if our pics didn't turn out.  I still haven't gotten mine but I have my fingers crossed.  Hope you are enjoying your time with your husband!!!

Don't worry about your dress. You'll find the perfect one! I wasn't sure about mine, but I felt pretty in it. And now that I look back at the photos, I know it's the one :)

Good luck!!
