Is a Welcome Dinner expected?

We're thinking Welcome Drinks in the lobby bar like a lot of others are doing! Our flight arrives later in the evning anyways. I do like the idea that you could give out the bags then and make up silly name tags so people could get to know each other!

I don't think it's expected at all. Honestly, most of you guest if not all have probably never been to a DW so what are they gonna compare it to. They have no idea that people even do them so I think it's fine if you skip it. I know my hotel charges to have a dinner like that so i have no plns on doing it.

I like the idea of having welcome cocktails. I am not sure a welcome dinner is in the budget, but I could pull off welcome cocktails.

We're having a welcome dinner in place of what would be a rehearsal dinner. It's not going to be anything grand just at one of the buffets at the resort so everyone can get to mingle. My family and FI's family other than my parents and his mom have never met and probably won't until we get to our destination so I think it could be good for everyone to spend that time together.

I agree, if the hotel is AI-try to do a cocktail hour, but I don't think it's necessary to have one, it's more of a personal choice

We'll probably do a super casual welcome dinner or welcome cocktails. In lieu of a rehearsal dinner. It would give guests an opportunity to meet one another and that way they will be a little more relaxed at the wedding!!!

I was curious about this as well but wasn't sure we wanted the added expense of a welcome dinner. That being said, our families have never met so I want to make sure we have something were introductions can be made. The welcome cocktail party sounds like a great idea!
