How much was your wedding dress???

Recommended Posts

mine was around $230. It was a monique lhuillier that I found on ebay. It fit my requirement of non-strapless sheath, and it was better than anything I had found in the stores, so I just went with it. I think that the original retail was around $3k but it had been worn once before.

I can't say that I knew right away that my dress was the one either because there was another one I was also in love with. One was in Toronto and one was in NY, so I could not even try them both on in the same day. I decided because my mom and my sister came with me for both dresses and they said the one I picked flattered me more. I look a lot skinnier in the one I bought (apparently). Who could say no to that. :)

The back of my dress was very important to me also. I found a few dresses that I loved, but they didn't have THE back that I was looking for. As soon as I tried on my dress, I knew it was the one. It is by Allure Bridal and I paid $850, and will pay a few hundred more for alterations.

Good luck shopping!

I'm hoping to keep my dress costs under $1k.

On another note, I'm in a slightly different situation which will probably have it's own thread later LOL. MY FMIL has offered to make the dress for me. To her credit, she made her niece's wedding dress and is currently making my FSIL's dress also. From what I've heard, the niece's dress turned out well - haven't seen FSIL's dress yet. I think it's a very nice offer but I don't want her to get mad at me if I have to make several alterations cheesy.gif Plus I'll have to see how FSIL's dress turns out. It is lace and pretty complicated from what I hear, so if she can manage that one I will probably let her do mine! (It's my understanding that she's paying for all the fabric which turned out to be $500 for the lace dress, so that definitely helps out on wedding costs!)

However, I'm also gonna shop around at places like David's Bridal and this little store we have here that sells designer/vintage wedding dresses for cheap (I think it's called Lulu's or something like that..)

OMG....thank you so much for saying that. I really was having major emotions thinking I wasn't having the "right emotions" when trying on dresses. You're so right about being indecisive....I'm totally like that too. Its also so hard for me trying on dresses because I swim in everything (like a size 2 and 5'4) so with major clips and dresses that are way too long it's hard to tell......yikes!

same thing here - i went through the doubts because i never had that "this is THE dress" moment. i had to try on my dress a handful of times before i bought it. and i definitly knew i liked the dress - but all the other gals were like - "oh, you'll KNOW when it's the right dress" - i never KNEW. guess that's just not in our nature! i 2nd guess everything! lol

as for the size issue - that is tough. i am 5'4" as well, but probably a size 4-6 - and it was tough to picture the dresses made for your size. i just had to have faith that when it was mdae for ME, it would look better! and it did - don't worry!

I also had issues with sizing, etc... I'm very petite. very. Anyway, I couldn't see having to spend 3,000 on a dress plus 700 in alterations.. plus, I never got that "its the one" feeling so I found an awesome seamstress, and copied 2 dress styles that I wanted (top from one, and bottom from another). My all silk, swarowski, corset inside, bra, the whole shabang dress will end up costing $1,100 plus $60 for the custom made veil.

I copied a Jim Helm top and a Lazaro Bottom.

I haven't gone dress shopping, so I can't comment on most of this, but as far as the back of the dress goes... When you walk down the aisle (both ways) that will be what everyone is looking at. All the pictures at the alter will show parts of your back. So be sure you are happy with the dress. Especially for that amount.
