Tungsten can be cut off, there is one part of the ring that can be cut and only that place. All er's are able to cut the ring off and know where to cut it. So don't let that scare you away from the ring. And it is actually one, if not "the" toughest metal you can get for a guy to wear. So if your guy works with his hands alot and needs to withstand some heavy beating I would really consider tungsten.

My ering is 19k white gold. I choose that over the 14k because this way I won't have to get it re-dipped. Apparently it holds up better and so far so good. I'm always banging it on things and it still looks good. We more than likely will go with a different metal for FH's ring. He'll need something a little more sturdy.
