Well I have to say to everyone who has to listen to complaints, "Wow! That sounds like it will be amazing. What a great idea to celebrate with the people that really matter. I'm sure it will be as beautiful and unique as the love you and your FI share." Sometimes it helps to hear it supportive comments, even if they are from a stranger.

Some people really do make a mountain out of a mole hill though dont they. If someone told me they were having a DW id be like oh wow that will be so nice, not oh why are you doing that then.

And to Mochamakes, dont you just love MIL's, full of their own opinion. Mind you my own mother gets abit like that too as she gets older lol. MOTHERS HEY hahaha

I am so glad that I found this thread!  I have been feeling really guilty about our decision to have a DW.  My family is NOT happy, and I am very close with them, so it makes the planning process so hard.  I feel like I can't even talk to my parents anymore about the wedding plans..sad.gif   But it DEFINITELY helps to see I'm not alone!

I know the feeling... sad.gif but I have to come at peace with this issue.. My family will always complaint about every little thing about this wedding regardless whether is here at home or even in China... It's a special day in the lives of two people that love each other and they will understand that.. I'm pretty sure they will come around at the end when the idea sink in and understand this is what's important for us and what makes us happy..

UGH. FM-I-L is giving us a lot of grief for NOT wanting to have an AHR when we get back. Bottom line, I would but FH hates to be the center of attention and we would be inviting about 425 people. He would be horribly uncomfortable....why would we do that?! At least she has come around to the idea of the DW.

My family is a little less understanding. I have aunts who have made very poor financial choices their entire lives who are telling me that they probably will not be able to afford it, even if we keep it dirt cheap. Then they make me feel guilty because they will not be able to attend my wedding. It used to really bother me but now I am trying to remind myself that it is not my fault that they cant save $40 per month for the next year for a week vacation to the Caribbean, one day of which will be spent on my wedding. Hell, they could come for only three days! I think I am going to start suggesting that! cheesy.gif

I'm with you Lucy.  I got some grief from some of my family also.  But this is my second wedding and I just didn't see the need for a big afair.  And I also planned this a year in advance so people could save money up.  I also picked a cruise because it is usually cheaper that flying somewhere.

Here's the deal: there is no possible way to please everyone, so you just have to please yourselves and do what YOU want to for YOUR wedding. If they want to come, great, if not, we will show you pictures when we get back! I think especially now when it's more common for the bride and groom to be paying for most of the wedding (including ourselves), people have less of an opinion. I have mostly gotten a very good response, and now we have more people coming who we thought would say no! Oh well, the more the merrier! :) They are thinking of it as a vacation and an unforgetable wedding :).
