I love the idea of raffia I saw that post too!! You are on to something here..

It would look prettier if you used a taller candleholder- like a small hurricane lamp in the center with flowers surrounding the base of the hurricane lamp and peaking out of the top of the pail.

I think that is where I thought it needed to be higher. When I dig it down deeper into the sand it gets lost. So if your sitting at the table all you see is this tin pail....

 

I know where its at is to high...to bad those pails were glass.

Well after walking aimless for hours around the craft store, with all your ideas flowing in my head I came up with many different scenarios. And this is what we came up with. Maybe play with the sand more on the fan, and add more shells. We plan on going shelling when we get down there to add to the centerpieces.

I don't know if that's safe... seems like the fire would heat the pail up too much. You couldn't maybe find a taller candleholder or hurricane lamp to put in the center of the pail? I think you could find this at Walmart for about 60 cents.

Well we burned it for a good 10 minutes and the heat didnt even reach the top of the pail. Its also galvanized, so we figured that its okay.

 

I looked into the huricanes yesterday to. The problem with getting a hurricane is that there is not base, and than the candle will melt into the bottom of the pail, which is something we didnt want to do. And there isnt a candle tall enough for this length. Votive is to small, and anything larger is way to tall.

 

These type of pails usually are filled with cintrinilla..and you burn that...so wouldnt that be similar?

I think your good - the pails won't start on fire or anything (I think) I really like the way they look and with more sand and shells they will be perfect!!!

 

I think you can check this off the list!!!

It looks terrific! I really like how you incorporated the raffia, and I love the color of the candle holder with everything else.

 

If you don't have very much luck finding shells once you get there, the beach stores will have them relatively inexpensively, and you can negotiate a better price, especially if you are buying in volume.
