I went to the last bridal salon, but i found that it was not really helpful for me. B/C there are so many vendors, for renting tuxes, dj's, limo's, photographers, beauty salon's and because we are having a destination wedding all those things did not apply to us. But it is still kind of fun to go, i was still pretty excited!~

I mostly want to go to look at wedding bands, look at what they have to offer dress wise (it's a bit too early for me to try anything on anyway) and get into the "wedding atmosphere". I know I probably won't find much, but I'm excited to go anyway. Plus, if you go to their website only you can print a 10$ off coupon, so it makes going not expensive at all. :-)

If you've never been, go for it.. it is fun and like you said it's pretty much free!

Plus you'll get a few free magz. Especially Weddingstar where you can order all your favours, vails, head peices.. guest book.. this magz usually goes for $10 anyway!

They do have a few tables that offer info on DW, with resorts and package information. Even for honeymoons.

But now we feel like we've spent enough hours searching for a good resort and we want to focus on other things.

As for complaints, I feel like people who really want to complain will find a reason no matter what, so I'm not going to stress over them. LOL
I thought it was reasonable too, exactly when I looked at the Cuba packages I realized it'd come up to close or the same. And with food being important, I just went to DR.

It's true though, people who truly want to complain, will.. even if the resort was perfect, those type of people will find something to bitch about, Even in Fiji lol

Sorry to hear about the divorce papers, But looks like it worked out best, you find your true soulmate! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

RonNMe, how was "Le Salon" last week-end? Did it put you in the wedding mood?

We're going to a custom jeweler tomorrow night to get started on my ring, hope we can agree on a vision, because otherwise we're pretty stuck considering our timeframe. My BF only request to get married was that I should have a nice ring, with a diamond (I just wanted the wedding, not really a ring, I'm pretty simple). I agreed, but I will have only one ring, no wedding band. We met the guy at Salon des métiers d'arts in December, and the prices he charges for handmade work is astonishingly low. I don't know what kind of wedding bands you want, but custom work can be a nice and cheaper option than you thought.

It was ok. I got FI sold on the idea of chain sashes, even possibly pink ones! cheesy.gif

I also got to meet one photographer whose style I really like judging from her website. If only we had the budget for a photographer... alas we'll have to rely on friends and family taking pictures.

As for bands, we only tried a couple. FI found a style we both like for his, and one of the jeweler showed me a very nice band, a style I hadn't thought of at all. I wish we had had more time to look at more though. We started going through every aisle at first, but then had to rush through the other half in like 5 minutes because we had to go pick up FI's daughter.

I might be interested in doing it custom made, if you feel like sharing the name of the guy you met. :-)

You got your FH to agree on something pink... Mine agreed to fuschia+orange flowers for me, and orange only for him. We'll see what we really end up with! I understand your sadness about the pics, that's something I fear a bit. We'll use the resort photographer for the basic package, but I just can't convince myself to spend 1500$ to get an local outside one just to get max 100 pics in the end. I'll try to find a nice soul willing to take some amateur pics to supplement.

Met the guy tonight for the ring, I think it will be great! He's making me a prototype for next month (after the big Valentines day rush). He's doing my ring idea with silver, but without any stones set in. I'll get to keep this for a few weeks, this way I can ask for changes in the final setting. He also insisted to make a prototype for my BF, in case he changed his mind on having a band made. Here is contact info. However, I must say that he is francophone (as we are), so I have no idea if he speaks English:

Christian Baiwy

911, rue Jean-Talon Est, Bureau 316

514-274-5307

(prices start at 500-600$)

I'll post pics later in the process!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there is no way I'll convince FI to wear anything pink, even a flower corsage. Haha

We thought about it front and back and tried to twist it so many ways, but there just isn't any way we can afford to bring in a photographer. The price would be close to 3000$ (Paying her trip, plus the price of her lowest package). Unless we win the lottery... cheesy.gif There is one bit of good news though. At the Salons I participated in many contests, including hers, and I won!! I don't have the details yet, but basically I think it's a photo session at her studio. That'll be nice to get some professional pictures of FI and me.

Thanks for the info for the jewelry guy. I'm francophone too, so that's not a problem. FI is strictly anglophone, but I can do the translation for him. LOL Looking forward to seeing the pics of your ring!

We just booked our trip last night, so now it's time to focus on the invitations so that I can send them hopefully before March.

I guess I consider myself a lucky girl. The FI doesn't care about any of it.. just wants to marry me.. I could put him in a pink suite if I wanted and he'd play along lol just to have a happy bride. But lucky him I am very simple.. his wearing a beige suite white shirt (not sure on the tie) and the flower will be whatever the resort offers probably something white, maybe a little bit of a bit orange.

You girls will def have to post pics of your rings when you get them.. I just went to a jewellery store (where we got my e-ring) and looked for a ring close enough (got the same color and quality)

I'm a pretty simple bride too. The flowers will also be whatever the resort offers, and he won't even be wearing a suit. Just a white shirt and beige pants.

As for the ring I might just go in and buy whatever is there. But in some cases it might be cheaper to get it custom made. I'll be sure to post pictures.
