Hi,

I have just read from a bride-to-be that they were not allowed to drink any alcohol in Cancun before the wedding ceremony which i was very surprised about!!!

can anyone confirm if this is truehuh.gif I was hoping to have a couple of glasses of champagne to settle the nerves whilst getting ready!

Thanks

I know here in Canada, a marriage is not legal if the bride or groom is intoxicated during the ceremony/paper signing. I imagine that's why... but really, who is going to know/care if you have a couple glasses of bubbly beforehand with your ladies?

Also, if you are taking care of the legalities before going to Mexico, this shouldn't be an issue at all.

Well I can't confirm or deny this at all, but I certainly can understand it. I've heard basically the same thing from local marriage commissioners to the extent that you can't be noticeably drunk LOL! Even our local government site says that you cannot be inhibited by drugs or alcohol (not exact wording but something similar). It may have something to do with the Mexican laws around a civil (legal) ceremony.

Having said that, I don't think anyone would begrudge you a glass of champagne beforehand, but beware of how much you drink since you're already likely to have enough of a body rush and even a smaller amount of alcohol can have a greater effect, plus taking into consideration the sun and heat.

LMAO!! This is hilarious and nothing I even thought of. I can't have anything prior to the ceremony as I am allergic to alot of alcohol and can't chance having a purple flushed face before I walk down the isle. That would be mortifying. I'll have to warn my FI... I can totally see him and his buddies downing some tequila beforehand. haha

Hahaha I just got legally married in Vegas at the Little White Wedding Chapel Drive Thru (we actually walked up to the window with about 20 friends) and the people there were extremely adamant about the drinking thing. They told me about 100 times on the phone that they wouldn't marry us if they even thought we had been drinking. And absolutely no alcohol on their property. It just made me laugh because it was Vegas. I'm sure a glass of champagne to calm the nerves will be fine especially if it is not a legal ceremony, but you really don't want to drink any more than that to avoid the drunk faces in pictures wink.gif Check with your WC to make sure you don't break any rules!

I think they say that because they don't want people to exagerate on the consumption of alcohol. In my hometown if they smell alcohol they can refuse to marry you but like everybody said, what's a couple glasses of champagne going to do? Don't get hammered and can't walk down the aisle though ha ha. I'm definately having a 2-3 beer or 2-3 rum and coke before walking down the aisle, if I don't I'll be way too emotional so with a couple glasses of SOMETHING in me I'll just be my happy go lucky self.. ha ha

Even if it is true I wouldn't worry too much. Who's going to know if you slip in a drink or two? It's not likely that you'd get smashed before the wedding. I actually was considering Mexico when we were planning our DW but was turned off by the fact that we'd have to get bloodwork and chest x-rays done!
