How to make a centerpiece like this?

I want to have this kind of centerpieces, but I got quoted $80 per piece. I almost agreed to pay that much but then looking at the picture, it can't be that hard to do. The flowers are easy, but what do you do for the grass inside? is there something I can buy here and assemble it at the destination?

I actually was at a house today and saw this centerpiece, client got it at a wedding she attended this past weekend. I took a good look at it and it really just wide green leaves rolled around inside the vase and to keep the leaves inplace there was a floral foam block. The flowers were pushed into the foam block. The vase was decorated with a chocolate brown ribbon with light blue ribbon on top of the chololate... Chocolate wider ribbon/blue narrow. Hope this gives you some insight.

They don't show that exact centerpiece, but she put the large green leaves around the rose centerpiece I believe. And created a hydrangea centerpiece as well. Hope this helps!

You can make one to see if you are happy with the results. The local craft stores probably carry the same type of materials too.

you could also just use floral tape to hold the greens down, but the foam would work well too.

First, get blue and green hydrangea flowers and a cube vase. for the green on the bottom, you could use aspidistra leaves . Roll them up, and put them in the vase. If you wanted to add a bit of an extra touch, I would stuff some beargrass there as well, it will create more dimensions and more colours and some texture. 

 

Now for the flowers themselves. I would not advise putting them on oasis (flower foam). These types of flowers need a lot of water, so if you want to keep them fresh longer, I suggest just putting them in a vase full of water. You would need 3-4 stems of blue hydrangea per vase. for the green, you could use just the green hydrangea, but there's another way. There are these flowers called button mums, or kermits. They are a very vibrant green, and are great for accents.You could even use both, it would look really great and colorful.

 

As to how to actually make it, it's really easy. Just gather it as you could a bouquet, and tie it with either an elastic or floral tape. It doesn't matter what you use, since the guests wont be able to see the tie. Then, cut the stems at an angle and stick the arrangement in the vase. It will tkae you 15mins tops per centerpiece, and will save you so much money!

 

I did something like that for my wedding, it was fully hydrangea themed, except I used white and hotpink as my colours. I used to be a florist, so I figured I could just make the flowers myself. I ordered them from an online florist, they're good in the way that they don't overcharge you like a local florist does, and their flowers are straight from the farm. I think I used... bunches direct? Something like that. Anyway, I didn't have a problems and my whole flower wedding cost me between 200-300 dollars. You should consider that option.

 

One more piece of advice - order a few extra flowers, always. Just in case something wilts or breaks, you know?
