None of our other family members are going which is the main reason we're having this. Plus, it's like having 2 weddings!! We're doing cocktail hour w/apps, sit down dinner, DJ and the works. The wedding party will be wearing their attire and I'll hire a photographer for a few hours.

We aren't having a DJ for our wedding in Mexico...just an ipod. We still plan on doing a first dance and father/daughter in Mexico. For those of you having big AHR....are you planning on repeating the whole first dance thinghuh.gif I won't do the bouquet toss, etc. but thought it would be nice to do the dance again. What is everyone else doing? Thanks!
I don't think we'll repeat it all for the wedding (formal AHR is before the wedding). My fiance's parents have hired a DJ and have told us to think about our first dance. We aren't planning anything formal or private in Jamaica so after dinner I'm not even sure where we'll all end up. MAYBE if we find a place to dance and people are into it, we could see about requesting a song for us but I really doubt that...I'm just not into the other things (bouquet and garter toss)

I wanted to stay far away from having anything formal so we are having it at a friends restaurant. It'll just be a buffet of appies and an open bar. Unfortuantely in order for him to close the restaurant we have to have it on a Sunday and I'm not sure when to start it(thinking 4pm). Also we aren't having a reception during the wedding in Mexico so we will be missing out on dancing and I'm not sure if it'd be weird to have dancing in the middle of a restaurant in the afternoon. Has anyone else felt like the AHR is more of a hassle to plan than the actual wedding?

were also having a a formal AHR. At first I was really excited but now its just becoming more of a pain. We have about 50 coming to the destination wedding weekend 10/10/10 and then that friday 10/15/10 is the formal ahr back home with about 200 guest. It just seems like the two receptions are starting to mirror each other. its getting confusing!! plus i have no idea on what to do about invitations? any sugestions?

I, too, am having a formal AHR. Like many others I've got 150+ attending, while only about 30 attending the DW. We are doing the wedding attire, pictures from the wedding, and possibly video if we can figure out how to set it up.

Our DW after-party will be much less formal. We're getting married in the a.m. then having beach time and a day sail, then dinner back at our villa, so the AHR is really important to me and the fiance. But mostly to my fiance. I was surprised at how insistent he was upon having a formal AHR.

My AHR venue does almost everything, which is spectacular. Centerpieces, linens, catering, cake, no need to decorate because it's already beautiful. These things together were the reason why I chose this particular venue, I don't really have to stress about the AHR. Which is perfect, considering we come back from our wedding/honeymoon on a Tuesday, then our reception is on that Friday.

As for invitations... I've been pondering this too... I guess it depends on how and who you're inviting. Everybody that's invited to my AHR, is also invited to the DW, I didn't want to exclude anybody. So I believe I'll be sending out 1 invite, but in a pocket folder invite (probably from cards and pockets), in order to have separate cards to make each event's info clear.

Lola,

Wow, it's a small world! I'm not in Cohoes anymore, moved 10 miles south this passed June. Our AHR is right down the road from where we were living in Cohoes, at Michael's Banquet House.

You know, I never looked at 11 North Pearl, but I had considered going to the wedding show that was held this passed weekend there.

When is your AHR?

Lola,

My sister and brother in law live in North Greenbush! Sooo crazy! I absolutely love that you've been to a wedding at my AHR location! We've been there a couple times for planning, but I can't wait to see it all setup for the big event! How's the planning going for your AHR? Have any professionals hired? I'm sooo excited about our DJ (out of all things to be excited for, right? lol)
