What currency is best to bring to the Mayan?

I was wondering what currency is the best to use in Mexico. I am a canadian, though I'm unsure if the cnd dollar is accepted in the Riviera Maya/Cancun. I hear pesos are great to have when in Mexico, but most places want usd.

 

 

What currency is everyone else bringing or exchanging when they arrive in Mexico?

They won't accept Canadian currency as payment. US dollars and Pesos only. I'd say keep a decent amount of both of those currencies on hand though you will probably get more bang for your buck if you use pesos. The Canadian exchange rate to Pesos right now is $1 CDN = $12.63 MXN.

I never take cash and just pull pesos out of the ATM. A vendor may want dollars, but just ask tell them you have pesos. There's no need for them to pay the exchange fee twice. You're money will also go further.

US dollars have always worked for us -- we avoided having too many pesos with us, it seemed like dollars were accepted and preferred during all our 6 vacations there.

Be careful of using the atms down there. My bank charged me 3.50 a transaction for that.

Everybody takes Pesos... and the best way to get them is thru the ATM using your regular bank card. This way you get the best exchange rate.... we live here and only deal with Pesos thru the ATM from our Canadian accounts.
