May 2010 Brides!

Recommended Posts

i just found out that it will cost us $100 per non resort guest for our wedding. sad.gif all along, i thought our package of 35 people would cover the non resort guests. i'm seriously pissed.

we already have 4 that are staying at another resort and one of them is talking about bringing her relatives.

it is bad enough that my FI's aunt is planning to take her brother/sister who lives in Cozumel to the wedding...she and her husband are planning to stay with relatives so that's another 4 people.

how do you nicely tell a person that they can't take too many people with them?

we decided that we will limit it to one person per guest and that is it.

i am so stressed with this. i THOUGHT a DW will be cheaper! i would have picked another resort but i'm stuck with my resort.

ugh, Diana that sucks!! We have a couple people staying off site too and its supposedly $70 for a day pass plus $55 for the cocktail hour & dinner. There may be a way to avoid paying the day pass if people only come to the hotel just before the ceremony, but still it's a lot of $. Why can't people just play nice & stay at the same hotel as everyone else??

Did you actually invite FI's aunt's brother/sister? Or is the aunt just wanting to bring them b/c she's staying with them? Can you have FI or one of his parents talk to her? I definitely think you can let them know that yours is a small intimate wedding and while you'd love to see her family at some point, the wedding package is set at a certain number.

Good luck figuring that out!!

No, we didnâ€t invite her auntâ€s relatives! She decided that she wanted to bring them. I donâ€t know if he can tell his parents to talk to her. I think his parents would be like “why is it a big deal? they want to celebrate with you.†We donâ€t know them at all and never met them. Ugh! I donâ€t want to sound ungrateful but I want to keep it small/intimate. We have to pay the $100 per non resort guest for reception/cocktail, regardless. They donâ€t have to pay for the day pass to our wedding and that is a great thing for our non resort guests. I'm willing to bet if The royal implemented a day pass then she wouldn't want to bring her relatives! I'm just assuming that they think it's free for us to have the wedding which isn't the case!

Aww Di, that sucks! I literally have spent a year threatening high fees on people booking elsewhere, it was even in my invite which I'm sure is quite tacky of me but I wanted to force people to stay at my resort wink.gif

I would nicely explain that you budgeted for each invitee plus one and that she can bring a guest but she can't bring an entourage. Good luck girlie, hope you get it sorted out.

Diana - I agree with KH. I would ask the FI to have his family mention that it will cost you $100 pp to come to the wedding because they are staying off the resort.

My sister was my travel agent and she didn't even offer the other resorts when booking. I think 1 or 2 asked, and she said, it will cost my sister more to have you come to this resort, and everyone will be at the other resort....I got lucky.

I hope this gets sorted out, this is not just an extra few hundred we are talking about, it sounds like much more for you =(

That sucks. Can you make them pay for the $100 or is too late? I told people if they booked at another resort they would have to pay for a day pass ($95) and that they were better off staying at the same resort as us which everyone did.

Also, for people wanting to bring too many guests, can you have your or your FI's parents do damage control? My FI's aunt wanted to bring like 6 friends because she thought it would be cheaper for us but we had my FMIL explain to her that it would actually cost us more. Maybe someone can explain that to your FI's aunt?

A couple of weeks ago I also had a friend ask me if she could bring a friend (who I don't know) and I basically told her that it was too late and that I was over budget. A little brutal I know, but at this stage, if you're not on my list and I don't know you, I don't want to have to pay extra money for you to be at my wedding.

I would be FINE if the guests had to pay the day passes, not us having to pay for them. I guess I wasn't clarified on that part! I'm okay, we haven't gotten any more RSVPs so I'm just hoping that stays that way. Lol. Knowing our families, we'll get late RSVPs!

Oh well, positive thinking!!

Is anyone having problems with their resort's US WC? The Royal's US WC office is a mess. My original WC left and i got assigned to a new one. I just heard that one of their original WCs got arrested with DUI over the weekend. It's nuts!
