Well I hope all goes well for you... I Know the feeling very well of having the idea of your dad not being there on your special day... But it all seems to be moving along and congrats for that.... Good Luck...:)

That's awesome!! I had a somewhat similar situation myself - I lost my passport - still have no idea where, and only realized when I went to pack for my Mexican vacation! It was xmas time and I didn't have time to get one, BUT - I didn't need one!! I went anyway, I am pretty sure you don't NEED one for Dominican either (just saying) - I did bring my driver's licence and birth certificate. They can make you a passport in as little as 24 hours though so I'm sure your dad can get one! Chin up, it will work out - just thought I would let you know that if worse came to worse he could probably go without a passport :). Let us know how it works out!

Oh it will all work out I'm sure of it...we haven't heard anything more about it...the only thing with my father is that he wasn't born here and isn't a Canadian citizen so there is sooo much more red tape than if it was as simple as just getting a new Canadian Passport. He has to have a landed immigrant status card in order to leave Canada and be permitted back here. But you are right, a passport is not needed to travel to Dominican but my Dad's case is a special one and was told that he should really have one, along with his health card and drivers license...the more proof the better!

My brother WAS in the same position too. He only decided last week that he would come but lost his birth certificate! Well we rushed that and he received it yesterday and went to the passport office right away..he will have his passport by the end of the day today...CRAZY isn't it??

Kind of late, as I just found this thread, but how did it all work out Jennierin? My FI's dad has also been in Cda since the 70s and did not see a need to get his cdn citizenship. He has applied for a permanent resident card (I think it's the same as the landed immigrant card) and a renewed Phillipine passport so I hope he won't have any problems coming back to Canada. I just don't understand sometimes. Thanks and a very late congrats!
