Platinum wedding band...any suggestions?

Recommended Posts

So I have been shopping around for my wedding band for a few weeks, but every place that I go to tells me that the price is going to be around $3000.00 for a very simple channel band, because it will have to be in platinum, and there will have to be indents made where the claws of my engagement ring will fit..so there is not a gap between the two.

Does anyone else have any experience with custom making, or altering a wedding band to work with your ring in platinum..and the price range? Or does anyone have any website suggestions?

Thank you! I have uploaded a photo of my ring.

I got 2 custom made bands and they were $800...with diamonds. I did get mine in white gold but even the prices I was quoted for platinum weren't that high...about double what I paid but under $2k.

I would keep researching. Why would it have to be platinum btw? My ering is platinum but my weddings bands are white gold and you can't tell a difference.

really? the bands I was trying on looked completely different than my e-ring... Also, they said that they couldn't sauter it together..and it would wear different..making them look weird together.. Who knows, maybe they don't know! I would really like to just get the white gold and not have to spend an arm and a leg on platinum!

I didn't think about sautering...maybe that does make a difference then? They should be able to put beads in there though no matter what the metal if you want to keep them together. That's a nice option too because those can be taken out if you ever decide to change your ring.

I might make a difference at first when they bands are polsihed but they wear the same. I'll try to get a picture of mine up so you can compre but you honestly can't tell a difference!!

that seems like a lot to me...I was getting quotes for $3000 for my platinum eternity diamond band...then I went to the Diamond District in New York and got the band for $1000...much better deal. If you want to contact them their name is Kent Jewelers - they are great...they will make you something and ship it to you if you want.

If you e-ring is Platinum then you will want your wedding band to be in Platnum. You will not lik the way it look with one being platinum and one being white gold. My ring has the same horseshoe shape around the three stones. The link shows the side better

I was told that it will not be cheap to have a custom wedding band made to go with my e-ring. I do not want to take anything away from my e-ring and I dont want to hide the horseshoes on my ring at all. We are going to meet with a custom jewler on friday to see what he can com up with. I will make sure to let you know what they tell me!

I'm in the same situation as you. I have a platinum e ring and the matching wedding band doesn't even have the indents, so it wont sit flush. I looked at white gold but it won't wear the same at all. This is your wedding band, you may as well get platinum.

I was getting quoted aroud $2K with plat. band and diamonds 3/4 way around and if i wanted 3 sides it was about $3k. He was throwing out all kinds of prices but i wrote them down just in case. I have a Tacori ring and their band is quite expensive..starts at about $2K before diamonds and have found something similiar but with diamonds for the prices listed. Check around. I found that if you're serious they are willing to negotiate. Never pay list price for jewellry..the markup is ridiculous! My friend used to work in the jewelry department at Sears and he said its like a 400% markup -- negotiate!

There are lots of options for far less than you were quoted. Go to Diamond Prices: Diamond Jewelry Facts, Diamond Tools and Consumer Reports Forum and look at the list of vendors there under resources. You can also ask on the message boards there. In the meantime, you might want to take a look at Engagement Rings - Wedding Bands, Diamond Bracelets, Earrings & Loose Diamonds and The Ultimate Diamond Information Site - GoodOldGold.com and contact their customer service departments and see how much they charge to make the indents.
