Should we be paying for the off-property guest day passes

Recommended Posts

We had 3 guests that did not stay at the resort.

His sister ended up paying for 2 of them. And my husband paid for his dad to come on for the day........

I still don't think it was right, because everyone else paid for themselves for the whole week!

We weren't going to pay for guests who chose to stay elsewhere but when I had to submit our guest list/count to the resort, they asked for how many were not staying on the property. We will have 2, so they added the $80 day pass fee per person to our other wedding costs. I guess we will end up paying for them after all since there's not really a nice way to say "hey we had to pay another $160 for you, so pay us back." I thought there would be a way for them to pay when they showed up. Guess not!
What?!?! No way. Thanks for the heads up. I think I will email the resort to see how situations like this are handled. @elissae: It was clearly stated on your website. Its unfair to you and your FI to have to pay because they procrastinated.

Thank you ladies for your insight.  We decided we are not going to pay for their passes.  I have since found out that it is $100 per person if they wish to come spend the entire day at the resort and use the pool, eat at the restaurants, etc.  If they are just coming to the wedding it is $65 per person.  We feel they can handles that (especially after we saw the website of the resort they are staying at (pretty fancy schmancy).

I sent them a nice email explaining their options.  Phew!

We leave in 19 days!  So excited!

Hmmm... I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that you should pay for your guests who choose to stay off-property. I think guests are making a big commitment by attending our weddings at all and paying for their entrance is a nice gesture and makes them feel welcome. That said, I would hope that the majority of guests would be staying at the wedding resort and that this "admissions" issue would only apply to a rare few. If many guests are deciding to stay at other properties, that may be a problem.

I was wondering this when we booked our hotel since it is an all inclusive and some might want to go to an A La Cart hotel. I hope i don't run into this issue and am making it clear that we want all of our guest at our hotel (& so that we can spend as much time with them as possible)

The kid issue can be tricky. Its kind of unfair to not pick up the tab when they don't even have an option to stay your hotel to avoid the fee. I would ask your hotel if they have a sister hotel that the kids could stay at and avoid the entrance fee for the wedding. I saw that some of the hotels had a hopper type pass to get them in, just not sure which hotels did they were.

I am not advertising the guest pass and hoping everyone will stay at the resort. It's mostly family and it's a family friendly resort so I assume most going would want to vacation a few days together. In your case I would pay for your cousin but I'd prob draw the line somewhere after them

We have told everyone they MUST stay at the resort and aren't offering other options. If however, someone decides to just book something else and disregard our direction/ I will let them know that it will be $100 for each day's activities day passes (3 days worth of events planned) and that we are not covering this cost.
