Who else is unemployed and frustrated?

Background: I met FI in October, got engaged in November, moved in March

1st and got laid off March 17th.

Talk about feeling like absolute crap. I thought I'd be able to save mad money for the wedding and everything else since I wouldn't have rent and we don't have a mortgage and then that happened.

FI has been great - told me to take the summer off and relax, recharge and regroup. So I did, we had a great summer of traveling, but now I'm ready to find a job and there is nothing out there.

I'm a recruiter and with most companies not really hiring, there is very little need for people like me.

I know all about job searching, job boards, networking...doing all of those things...had a couple of leads, couple of interviews, but basically sit home a lot because I don't want to spend too much money or ask FI for anything

(we are not combining finances) and I am getting a little depressed.

I've been on my own for 18 years, pretty much supporting myself, and it's awesome to have someone saying "I've got your back" but I feel so useless not having a job, a routine, a purpose....I feel like my brain is atrophying and I don't even feel like getting up to go to the gym or anything.

SIGH

Thanks for letting me vent.

I know how you feel, I've been through the whole unemployed, getting depressed bit. I lost my job with no notice (literally came into my office & told me that my position had been eliminated, good bye.) It was very difficult to find work, actually took me over a year. On one hand, I really enjoyed being able to stay at home & take our son to & from school, but the $$ situation got to me. I hated not being able to contribute & having to feel like I needed to ask before I spent any $$. It took a LONG time to find a job, but don't loose hope, there is something out there & don't allow yourself to fall into depression (I know how easy that can be.) Good luck & hang in there!!

Im really sorry to hear that....I was watching the news yesterday night and up here in Canada they says things are turning around quite well. If our economic outlook is starting to get better, then your must be turning around too, bc we are so closely linked. OUr countries are so closely linked that it will be only a matter of time things get better. Don't loose hope, there is something out there for you. I am a firm beleiver that your are always where your supposed to be (things happen for a reason) and maybe this happened bc a better opportunity is coming your way. And if you were employed maybe you wouldnt have taken the time to persue and now that your not, you would be willing to. I bet you something so much better is on the horizon for you and your gonna be so happy you had that wonderful summer with your FI bc you lost your job and you wont ever look back.

Dont stress to much...try to stay positive...I know its hard to do....but things always happen when youleast expect them to. I'm sending good vibes to you!

I wish you all the luck and hope something comes your way really soon!

Catch the hugs!

Just an idea!!!!

I left my job as a youth crisis worker just over a 1 and half years ago.. I too had just gotten engaged, I had a bit of a meltdown after something really scarey happened and I wasn't able to continue working in that field. I had done that job for 12 years, that was who I was. I felt really lost and alone for a long time.

I was really lucky to have my kids and FI, not mention good friends. One such good friend asked me to clean her house for her one friday and she would pay me for it. I did and her Ex came to pick up the kids and was really excited about her house looking that great on a Friday afternoon, he came and asked me if I'd clean his on Monday after the kids went back to mom's. I needed the money so what the hell.

I now have working for me 2 part time girls and myself fulltime. I have 33 regular clients that are weekly/biweekly about 10 clients that call on an as needed bases. I have just recently picked up two daycare centres that I clean at night and I work with several real estate agents, getting homes ready for sale and cleaned when people move out.

It amazed me that in time when everyone seems to tighten their belts I was able to get this off the ground. I know it really seems like there is nothing out there, sometimes you just have to change where you looking.

I may not want to do this forever, however for now it works and pays the bills... Actually I make more now then I did two years ago

Don't beat yourself up.... Good luck...

I am employed but I am frustrated and stressed out because my FI has been out of work since June. We are getting married in May and I just put the photography and trip deposit on my credit card and they went through...i freaked out a little bit because I am not sure if i will be able to pay them before 2nd payment gets charged.

I totally relate even though I have a job..my FI has been depressed because he just sits around at home and only go to the gym. He has been looking EVERYWHERE and there has been a few false leads. He even got scammed...he had got a UK job but that was a stupid scam. talk about infuriating. It is affecting me as well.

I am definitely praying for best for people like us. We don't deserve this at all.

Corporate greed can ruin lives and I hate them for that.

That is awesome! You can start a cleaning business and get people to work for you when you find something else.

This would be great, except that I am a slob. I have never been neat in my life and have been told I look "awkward" with a broom. I do my best in our home, but cleaning is not something I could ever do other than here...lol!

I am sure I could, I just like the flexibility of what I have right now. I have two ladies that have kids in school, they are stay at home moms. They give me about 15 hours a week, one is more flexible she will work from 9am to 4pm her kids are fulltime school and she will also do the daycare centres in the evenings when I am away.
I could and may look for another job one day, but for now I like being home at 4pm and once a week I clean the centres for 4 hours after 5pm the centres close and 4 hours on the weekends.
It isn't for everyone and it is hard work... I have lost over 30lbs.

My point was we always seem to look in the direction we came from and not other directions. I never dreamed I'd be doing what I am doing (or enjoying it) I have a college education and over 20 years work expereince in social work.
Sometimes we have to create things for ourselves, was my point!!!!
I know from being at that crossroad and not having a job it is very scarey, my heart does go out to all these people that have lost their jobs and that are struggling to survive.

jerseykitten,

try not to get soo down on yourself you can only do what you can do.my fi is in the same position.we have managed and not been too worried until now when it has come to paying off the wedding.we have managed to buy most things thankfully.

keep looking obviously you know excactly what you are doing in that dept.the current down turn certainly does,nt help but i think things are starting to level out a little.

my advice is keep talking to your fi so he knows how you are feeling.you are going to be husband and wife soon he is there for you.us independent women what are we like.try and get to the gym and get the good feel good hormones flowing.

Michele -- If I could hire you to do something, I SO TOTALLY WOULD, sweetheart!!!

I AM SO SORRY to hear about what a tough time you're having since the economy tanked! They're not the most ideal, but have you gone to any temp. agencies? I know it might not be what you do in your field, but perhaps you could do some administrative work or something like that for a little while until things start to improve.

Or, is there anywhere you'd like to volunteer? Even though you wouldn't be making any money, it would be a way to get out of the house and feel good about yourself by helping others....just an idea.

Good luck and we're pulling for you!
