Cancun-Rivera Maya weather in December

Recommended Posts

Does any one know what type of weather to expect in December in Cancun and the surrounding areas? Is one part of the Mayan rivera hotter than the other in this time of the year? I know its a silly question but I have family traveling from a cold country and I would like for them to enjoy some fun in the sun and be able to enjoy the nice WARM water and bright sun down there. Where they are from the water stays cold year round, and to be honest I hate going to the beach and getting in freezing water. I just want to have have an idea of what to expect. I hope its not too cold and that its warn and sunny enough to be make it a mini vacation in the sun for our guest.

I forgot to mention that we are aiming for the very last day of Dec Idealy we wanted the wedding on Dec 31 2010 and party into the new year but well thats in a world where dreams dont come true. Every thing is closed due to it being NY eve. The places that I have contacted wont do a wedding on that day. Our other option is to get married on the 30th 2010. So if that were to happen what would the weather be like then? Any takers?

Here is a link to the weather history. Cancun Weather

The high in December is 83. The water is always warm, as you are on the Carribean side of Mexico.

It may be hard to book a wedding Dec. 31, but I wouldn't necessarily rule it out, especially if you are looking into renting a hacienda. Holiday room rates are about $50/night more expensive than in the low season....just something to keep in mind.

If you go to this website you can check out historical weather for your location. It's pretty awesome because you can enter your exact wedding date and look at how the weather has been on that date for like the last 13 years. They even break it down by each hour of the day and tell you everything from the weather to humidity, wind gusts, precipitation, etc.

We got married closer to Playa Del Carmen than Cancun (Secrets Maroma) last December 7th.

The weather for the most part, was REALLY nice. We had a really rainy night one night (thank GAWD it was one night AFTER our wedding!)... but that was the worst of it. It was still sunny during that day.

We stayed for two weeks (our guests stayed for one)...so the second week when we were on our own we had one or two kind of cloudy days, but still warm enough to sit out and read by the pool.

I think by the end of December, you will be safely out of the rainy season and have good weather...

But check out that site Simba posted...I checked that same site before we got married and it was quite accurate (i.e. historically it rained the day after our wedding...which it did:-))
