Hey Ladies,

I'm new to the site, obviously! Tentatively planning to get married at the Gran Caribe Real in October 2010. Still early in the planning process, but could use some tips or suggestions. Also, I'm registered with destinationweddings.com. Is this good, bad or other? Thanks.

Kim

You're gonna LOVE being a part of this amazing forum!!!

My best advice as you start down the road to your wedding day would be just to take your time and do lots of research before you book or buy anything (attire, flowers, you name it!) and make sure it's all that you've envisioned for your BIG DAY!

And that's where this phenomenal site comes in: BDW has proven to be invaluable in my planning, and it's comforting to know that there are other brides and grooms out there experiencing the same highs and lows during their planning process -- a friend is always just on the other side of your computer screen!

CONGRATULATIONS and Welcome to BDW...it's a wedding-planning heaven!

Welcome to the forum!

I would do some searching on this forum for destinationweddings.com. I know we have a bunch of reviews and opinions of them on this forum and I think you'll find the reviews useful.

Good luck and best wishes!

Hi - I'm a newbie too!

I signed up with destinationweddings.com and I don't want to jump the gun, but so far my experience has not been a positive one. I originally wanted a wedding in PR so I asked her to send me hotel options there and she pretty much ignored my request and sent me only hotels in Jamaica and Cancun. I wasn't too upset because I wasn't 100% set on the location so her input helped me to finally decide on Cancun. What has really upset me more than anything, is that she went way above my budget with the hotel quotes. I reminded her what my budget was, and 2 weeks went by without any contact from her so I had to call her to follow up. After we spoke she sent me a revised quote which was a little closer to my budget but was still A LOT higher than the rates I found on my own (twice as much). The rates she sent me were twice the rate I found on Orbitz.com (which is not a group discount). When I called the hotel myself, I got an even lower rate. That's just my personal experience with my travel consultant.
