One of my friends that got married in Mexico took a bus from San Diego to TJ and then took a flight to Cancun. When they were getting on their flight, Mexico wouldn't let them take any of the twine on board because it could be used as a weapon. But everyone else that has came from the US and went to Mexico has reported no problems with items for the wedding. We have like 4 girls at work that have gotten married in Mexico over the last few years

I went to mexico last june for a friends wedding and got right through customs with a green light, but again I wasn't carrying a large quantity of wedding items!!!

Under the rules issued in Dec. 2013, you can bring in up to $500 per person duty free if entering Mexico by air.  The following is copied directly from the article.
 

What can I bring in duty free?
° The items allowed in your personal luggage, according to the length of the trip
° As of Dec. 5, 2013: Up to US$500 per person in permitted goods, or its equivalent in other currencies when flying into Mexico. Passengers arriving by land are allowed only $300 of goods per person. Passengers traveling with family members (spouse and children) may combine their personal exemptions only when arriving together. In order to claim this additional exemption passengers must have the corresponding commercial invoices or receipts available.

 

 

Which items may be included in my personal luggage exempt from duty when flying?

° Suitcases, trunks, and the necessary bags to carry your belongings.

1. Goods for personal use, such as clothing, footwear and personal toiletries and beauty products, as long as they are appropriate for the duration of the trip, including wedding party items. Baby travel accesories, such as strollers and baby-walkers.
2. Two photographic cameras or video recorders, 12 rolls of film or videocassettes; photographic material; three portable cell phone or other wireless networks; global positioning equipment (GPS); a portable typewriter; an electronic calendar; a portable computer (laptop), notebook, omnibook or similar items; a copier or portable printer; a portable projector, and their accessories.

Based on this, I'm going to make sure I have receipts and assume I will be OK.  A bigger problem will be paying the extra baggage fees at the USA airport before we leave!!  So far, I have 4 large bags of wedding items and haven't started packing clothes and cosmetics.  We're flying first class so can check 2 bags each with no charge.  But, I expect we'll be checking at least 3 bags each.

I wanted to but got scared in the end! lol  My coordinator from the resort didn't advise it, but once I got there she told me fireworks of any kind are very difficult to get in Mexico, except at certain times of the year (New Years and July 4th maybe.) We were there just two weeks after the New Year and could find none. However, what they want to charge for sparklers from the wedding packages, I thought was outrageous.  Contact customs and ask...

ABSOLUTELY NOT! It has nothing to do with Mexican customs, it is ILLEGAL (and extremely dangerous) to fly with sparklers. They fall into the same category as fireworks!!!

Why would pain meds be a no-no?  I travel with meds no matter where I go.

Since I am going to have a lot more than usual I plan to bring receipts.

Everyone puts them in their OOT kits, so I assume if it was a problem we would know by now

 

I am not sure re matches. Maybe in checked baggage, but I would check their regulations.
