Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal, Maya/Lindo Reviews

Recommended Posts

I'll give you a brief review on those properties:

(Sorry if they're a bit blunt. I think I've been somewhat spoiled in the past, so that definitely sways my vote.)

Tucan/Quetzal: Nice, cool scenery but it just wasn't for us. There were kids EVERYWHERE! The rooms were "ok" definitely nothing fabulous, there were a few holes in the wall and it looks like it needs a renovation. If you can get one of the beach front rooms on the 2nd or 3rd level I think it would be worth the extra money! Pools were great, beach was fantastic but crowded. Oh yeah, hard beds (they're 6 inches of mattress on a concrete slab). We slept fine tho. We didn't end up meeting with a WC there because we knew after walking the property that it wasn't the place for our wedding. I bet it'd be better during other times of the year where it's less crowded, and a little less of the "Walmart" crowd (as Martin says, lol) is there. So I worked my magic and got us bumped up to...

Maya/Lindo: We actually got to stay on the Maya side which was awesome! The rooms were beautiful! I'd say they're the 2nd nicest rooms I've stayed in yet. (Rooms are important to me) When we met with the WC there (Luz) I had her show me a room on the Lindo side and those were pretty nice as well. I don't think anyone would be complaining about the rooms there at all. Btw, I didn't feel completely comfortable with the WC. She seemed a little meek and timid to me. She showed us pics of weddings they had there in the past and there were plastic boats in almost every pic!!!! This is what REALLY deterred us. They said they can't move them out of the way because it's a business or something. She said you just had to "tell your photographer to shoot from better angles". Honestly, I don't want my photographer to have to try that hard!! The price to bring in a photog. is only $300 vs. some of the other resorts' $500. Or, of course if they stay one or two nights it's free.

The pools were great - it was like Wet n' Wild at a really nice tropical resort. They had tons of pools, plus a wavepool, plus a lazy river! The wildlife and fauna there was awesome. EXCEPT when you walk to the beach (this would be your "walk down the aisle") - the mangroves there have been devastated by the hurricane, which leaves for a HORRIBLE backdrop for your wedding pics!!!! This was the second thing that really did it for us there.

The third thing was this resort is HUUUUUUUGE!!!! Seriously, it's like 3 or 4 football fields long just to walk from the lobby to the beach. Ridiculous! You'll definitely get a work out, but it's so big that you tend to get lost and really have to plan your activities out. Since we were sick while down there it was kind of annoying to us.

The lobby bar is great, that's the only place where you'll find international liquors. The scenery all around the complex is fantastic! Really unique and cool to look at.

We really liked the Japanese restaurant. You can only eat there if you're staying on the Maya side. The gourmet restaurant on the Maya side was also nice (that's where he proposed!). :)

The buffets were just ok.

Also, there's a shopping mall on site! It's just crazy how big not only the Maya/ Lindo but the entire complex that includes Beach/Del Mar is. They have a carousel, restaurants, stores, spa, etc there. There is also a golf course on site.

Haha, ok so maybe that wasn't such a "brief" review, but there ya go! I also have the wedding package info from the Maya/Lindo. Basically it's around $1,750 for the legal ceremony package.

I apologize for taking so long to post this review! I'll add pics to this thread later. Let me know if you have any more questions,

Jaime :)

Thanks for the review, would love to see some pictures!! So the main deterrent from the Quetzal was the children?? Just wondering because I have never been there and that is where we chose to get married. Did you see the wedding sites or have any photos?

Thanks

Tracy

Hey Tracy,

Since we knew it wasn't THE location for us, we skipped the appointment w/the WC there (Btw, she is very nice and seems helpful) in an effort to move hotels and thus move on with our search. It was a combination of the people that were there, the amount of kids, overcrowding (the hotel was actually overbooked tho!) and to a lesser extent the rooms and large size of the property.

Keep bugging me and eventually I will post some pics - I know y'all are probably dying to see them! cheesy.gif
