Beach wedding - Need speakers and mic?

I'm getting married on the beach and my wedding coordinator suggested that we have our DJ provide a speaker and microphone for the wedding ceremony because our guests won't be able to hear over the wind and waves. We are having about 50 guests, so it may be helpful but I don't know!! But it costs a bit more than we had in our budget

Is anyone else thinking about doing this, or already have it as part of their package? Do you think this is an absolute must-have??

It depends on how far away your speaker is to your guests. Our guests were gathered around us in a circle and we didn't have any need. However, I can see it being helpful under a traditional setting.

I am having on the beach as well but my WC indicated that the speaker/mic/ipod hookup was included ... maybe you can negotiate with your WC to get it included?

hmm... our DJ gave us a better deal on it than if we had to tack on an extra hour of his services, so I'll probably have them included in our package since our guests will be in a more traditional setting in rows of chairs.

I think if you can afford it, you should have speakers and a mic...

It would kind of suck if your guests couldn't hear anything you guys were saying:-) (especially if you wrote your own vows...)...

We had a speaker and a mic (got married on the beach) and they were DEFINITELY needed...between the wind and the waves, no one would have heard anything :-)
