Any Vieques, PR weddings?

Here is my recent experience with Weddings in Vieques, run by Sandy Malone.

From a purely business point of view, it was helpful to have Sandy's assistance. I didn't mind that she was a bit pushy and lacked some polish because she made sure all the administrative details were taken care of in a timely manner, which was the bottom line as far as I was concerned.

My husband and I had a simple elopement ceremony right on the beach behind the suite we were staying in, and I would consider ourselves to have been generally cooperative and low maintenance clients.

While the ceremony was beautiful, the Reverend amazing, and the photographer outstanding, I was unfortunately accidentally made privy to some negative e-mail gossip about us on Sandy's behalf. The tastelessness was somewhat compensated for by the photographer (who actually got to know us) responding to Sandy that we were "quite normal, interesting... and solidly grounded". But Sandy's lack of professionalism just put a whole bitter aftertaste to our once-in-a-lifetime beautiful experience which I can say we are over now.

The simple fact is that she was clearly digging around for some gossip, perhaps as fodder for her blog, and I must say that it seems she feels a need to take out her daily stresses and frustrations in this manner on the very people (whether she "likes" them or not) that pay generously for her living.

While it is possible to realize this is her own problem and not take it personally, it simply outweighs the kind of sad feeling you get from this type of experience. My husband was actually upset and took it personally whereas I was able to see it for the fishing it was- but he should not have been sad after his wedding! It sorta broke my heart a little.

So if you think it is worth the convenience, go for it- but understand the risk involved due to the potential for needless drama.

I was married on Vieques July 1 2012. What a trip of a lifetime and a beautiful place to be married. We rented Villa Venti (off home away) and the hosts Glen and Alex helped us tremendously. We used Marilyn Mofford of Boda Vieques for help in planning. She did exactly what we wanted and was one of the nicest people we've met. She helped us plan "our" wedding, not pushing a pre planned wedding idea. Our officiant Nancy Carr could not have been more helpful, both with the wedding, but also with restaurant and shopping suggestions. We felt like we were among friends while we were there. Alex and Glen made us a fantastic wedding picnic on Blue beach where we married. If you want to know more, feel free to email!

My husband and I just got married on Vieques 7.1.2012. What a perfect place! We used Marilyn Mofford of Boda Vieques. She is the Un-pushy wedding planner of the island and a very nice person. Very fun to work with and listens to what you want for your wedding. Nancy Carr was our officiant and could not have been more helpful, both with the ceremony and with restaurant and shopping suggestions. We stayed at Villa Venti (from Homeaway.com) with Glen and Alex, they made a perfect picnic for us on Blue Beach the day we were married, and we had a dinner party with them and Marilyn, as well as one of their other island friends one evening. They also cater. for any more information feel free to email me, j

Hi All- I am also planning a wedding in Vieques in 2013 (probably September). Could you all share where exactly you held you ceremony and reception. We'll have 30-50 guests. We're hoping for some green space for our ceremony, and are open to all ideas or the reception ( other than the W, which is not in he budget). I've been in contact with Aguacate catering, and would love to hear about any experiences with them! I've also spoken with Sandy from Weddings in Vieques, but it seems like what she is suggesting isn't in our budget, unfortunately. I've been to the island once before, and I am hoping I can pull this off!

Alex and Glen at Aquacate did our food! It was amazing. I am not a seafood lover but the shrimp and scallops  were heavenly and the pear/walnut and goat cheese bruschetta!!! loved it all. We got married on Blue Beach. Glen Martin from Villa Venti where we stayed was an amazing help. He put us in contact with Marilyn Mofford who is the best and nicest wedding coordinator on Vieques in my humble opinion. They are the two people you need to speak to about planning a beautiful wedding, not an overpriced extravaganza.

Marilyn took our pictures which were amazing. If you are into sailing, Sebastian and Linda, friends of Marilyns have an awesome boat and take people out. There was a great restaurant but I cant remember the name of it with a lovely lot of "green" space to the west of Esperanza on the beach side up on a bluff above the beach. Perfect for wedddings, but Marilyn would know beautiful spots. Our officiant Nancy Carr was very helpful with suggestions for places to go and things to see also.
