I do not think it's tacky at all! I did not even do a save the date. My way was probably much tackier :) We sent out the only invites we're sending (message in a bottle) in June for our April 2010 wedding. It gave people the link to our website for more info. We are also trying to save money, and the environment too! :)

I dont think its tacky either - we decided to do our invitation now in place of a save the date because everyone wanted to book right away, we are thinking that we will send out a reminder to book when we would have sent out an std - we are just doing it backwards.

I think people forget that not every little thing is a requirement. No one even did STDs until like 5 years ago. I sent my invitations out in July for my May wedding. I was putting way too much work into them to have them just be a formality. I personally do not care for STDs.

I would not worry, we sent out our wedding invitations by email. Long story short we had to cancel our original wedding so we booked ours current wedding with only 14 weeks until the ceremony. We created a beautiful invitation - looks like the one we had planned on making with paper we just did everything electronically. No one commented in a negative manner, to be honest, most responded back on how beautiful they were and what a great idea to get the message out quickly.

I hope this helps.
