I hear you about the job situations here. It is just awful. I'm a new nurse & all of the new grads I know are having a ridiculously hard time finding jobs and nursing is supposed to be recession-proof! yeah right! nursing shortage my a**!! My solution was to just stay in school for another coupla years. What do you teach?

Anyway, so success at Macy's! Great!! So, which dress was it? Did you write down the style #? Did you get any pics? And what about at the 1st place (pics or style #?)?

I agree, the whole process is kind of confusing. I kept changing my mind about what I thought I wanted, but wound up back at square one in the end. Just go w/ your gut and how you feel in the dresses & you won't go wrong!! And DO NOT allow yourself to try on any $25,000 gowns at Kleinfelds! wink.gif

Well I was actually in finance for a few years...then decided i should get my masters in elementary teaching bcuz thats what i always wanted to do...soooo..i leave my job go to school, finally am done can get a job and then they put a freeze on hiring all new teachers..chose the right time to make the switch! lol

well macys was success and not..it was because I love the dress(Demetriosbride.com - Wedding Dress Demetrios Blue) and u cant tell there are flowers of the same material on the bottom all over it and the top has like flowers made out of diamonds but delicate, but its nothing like what i thought I was going to get and its huge! lol., so first i wanted something destinationy then i said screw it..im only going to be a bride once..god willing anyway..lol, so may as well do it grande! oh no im not goin 2 klienfelds because knowing myself ill love the dress that i cant have and then nothing from then on will compare.

Karenk77 & Damaris,

I bought my dress at Kleinfeld and I was blown away by the experience. My sales consultant was Audrey Pisani and, unlike other bridal shops, she was with me throughout the entire hour and a half of my appointment. She was incredibly mindful of my budget and was actually uncomfortable when I began trying on dresses that were outside of my budget. Normally you don't get this from a salesperson. They want you to spend as much as you can!

Kleinfeld was the first place I went dress shopping at and I had zero intention of buying a dress there, but between the exquisite service and the incredible selection and the incredible deal they offered, I couldn't say no! I got my one-of-a-kind sample for $999, when normally it was priced at $5,700! Even as I was leaving, the owner of the store came and shook my hand and thanked me!

Also, they don't charge you for an appointment. You need a credit card to secure a spot and will only be charged $50 if you don't show. They have to do this b/c they're so busy, but a lot of restaurants and doctors do this anyway, so this practice isn't anything new. Honestly, even if you're not considering Kleinfeld, I'd go anyway just for the experience. I can't rave about them enough!

I went to Bridal Garden and they had a lot of nice designer gowns for super cheap (Reem Acra, Ulli Maija, Monique Luhllier) but unfortunately I did not fall in LOVE with any of them. The lady said to try back in 6 weeks because by then they should have all new stuff. It is worth going to!

I also tried Macys across from Penn Station. I LOVE 3 dresses, so I have to go back with my posse. They are all completely different, KarenK I know what you mean about it not being something you expected to pick out!

Damaris- Is the bridal building worth going to? Is it more for veils and headpieces or do they have dresses there?

That is surprising that Kleinfelds has cheaper dresses, I was under the impression they START at $1500 and figured those would be the ugly dresses, lol maybe I will try them. I def want to go to RK bridals.

They all look better in person than in the pics. My problem is that I have a contemporary, a classic princessy, and then edgy look and I dont know what I want to look like bc I like all of the dresses. The halter top looks ugly in the pic but in person it fits the Cancun/beachy vibe b/c you think of someone cha cha cha-ing in it with maracas, lol! I also want to do a TTD so it is so hard to choose!

ooooh, K, that dress is gorgeous! I didn't see that one when I was there or I may have ended up with a poofy dress despite myself! :) You're so right - you can totally work the dance floor in just about anything, as long as you can move!

Sooo, this whole ttd acronym thing is short for trash the dress. And the concept is very cool. Basically the day after your wedding you, FI (well I guess he's your husband at that point!) & your photog go around your location (downtown, on the beach, on a horse, whatever) and take all sorts of great candidy-type shots. You get a ton of wonderful photos out of it b/c you've got more freedom to be artsy, sexy, whatever and aren't afraid to "trash" your dress, though some girls buy a cheap 2nd dress to do it in.

Depending on the photographer, it can cost extra in addition to your package or some include it (or an engagement shoot). We're doing it & it's included in our package.

If you search around the forum for TTD shots you'll find a TON, but here's a recent one of Jacilynda's

Oh, and Slap - I love the halter dress! It gives a sort of Mexicany-yet-modern feel and has "cha-cha" written all over it! :)

I think it's pretty damn amazing of you to do this!!! We NEED great teachers who love what they do so I really admire you for making the switch. Can you work as a sub through the school districts? Or even a classroom assistant for someone? I know it wouldn't be ideal but maybe to get your foot in somewhere? I'm not really sure how all that works out here tho. I really hope you find something!!!
