This is probably a pretty dumb ? but...

I was wondering if any of you other ladies have daily weight fluctuations? Let me explain what brought about this silly question...I have been reading through this forum (for tips, encouragement, ambition, etc.) & noticed that several women say things like "I weighed myself when I woke up this morning & had lost 2 lbs.!". I am just curious because can this be a result of a person's diet/exercise regime the previous day or because of normal weight fluctuations?? I just know that personally my weight fluctuates several times throughout a 24 hour period. When I wake up is typically my lightest point of the day...for example, if I weighed myself before bed & then again the next morning I can be anywhere from 1-3lbs lighter EVERY morning. So, how do you ladies truly gauge your actual weight loss? If I set a goal to lose 5lbs. I would have to say that my goal is to weigh between 114-119 because on any given day (without diet or exercise...just my normal day to day physical & eating routines) I weigh 119-123...lol--hope this makes sense to someone else out there! hahah! rolleyes.gif

I really don't try to pay attention to the scale due to that very fact. I eat something that contains a bit of salt.... I gain! What I do once a week is take measurements. That's the only way I can see if I've gone down in size. I always try to remember that muscle also weighs more than fat. I won't mind weighing 130lbs if I'm a size 4 or 6. Most of the people you see in fitness magazines are about that weight but can fit into size 4! Amazing.

If you're trying to lose weight, weigh yourself at the same time of the day, each time you weigh yourself. I also recommend that you only weigh yourself once a week (yes, sometimes that's really hard if you're like me! lol). That's what I try to do anyway because like you said, it all depends on what you eat, if you exercise, all that jazz! Don't worry girl, you're not the only one out there! lol

Yep, all these girls have it right! It's pointless to obsess about weighing yourself every day because of that very reason, it can also be incredible motivation killer. Daily weight all depends on what you ate, how much water you drank, and forget about it if it's that time of the month! The best thing to do is weigh yourself once a week (for me it's Mondays after my workout). I also agree with taking your measurements as a form of tracking your progress. When you're that close to your ideal body weight you may not see the change on the scale, but you'll notice particular areas getting slimmer!

My weight varies daily so I chart it weekly instead. It helps me to keep an eye on overall progress in a long term period rather than freak out daily. I do my weigh ins at the same time which happens to be in the morning cuz I've found I weigh less and it's more rewarding to see that number.

Good luck!

Everyone is right...same time (best in a.m.) everyday or once a week...depending on how you are.

Personally, it's all about how my clothes fit. I don't eat the same thing everyday and I eat what I want. But if my clothes start to fit differently (tighter/looser) I can contribute that to my diet or workouts.

If you are trying to lose weight, please please please understand that 85% of weight loss is DIET and not exercise. Everything in moderation!!!!
