Since we are having ours at a national park, we have to wait until they close before we can set up and start the ceremony:

6:45pm- Guests arrive

7:00pm- Wedding Ceremony Begins

7:30pm- Ceremony ends, guests head to Reception site

8:00pm- Cocktail Hour

9:00pm- Food is served

10:00pm- Let the dancing begin!  :)

At our resort we are only given three hours of time for the reception, is anyone else in this boat? We have the option to extend the reception at the price of $18pp per hour, plus the cost of having the dj stay longer. I'm just not sure how to pack it all into three hours and still have time to dance. Help!

Great timeline! I might end up stealing it  :P

I had a hard time deciding my reception timeline at first. We are not very traditional and want it to be casual and not dragged out with speeches and traditional elements of a reception (especially since we only have 3 hours for the reception!) Here is what I have so far:

7:00-7:15- Bride & Groom entrance & greetings (no wedding party entrance)

7:15-8:15- 4 course served dinner *speeches/toasts in between courses (very short and minimal)

8:15- First dance

8:20- Father/daughter dance

8:25- Mother/son dance

8:30- Tribute song to parents

8:35-9:00- Dancing & fun!

9:00-9:10- Cut cake

9:10-10:00- More dancing & fun!

We are actually having two receptions - one destination and one back home. So I will give what we are thinking for both.

Destination - since we are having an afternoon wedding

- champagne toast after the ceremony

- pictures

- cocktail hour where we will have the guests mingle, sign the guest book, maybe the cake cutting and of course some toasts since everyone will have drinks in their hands

- since the actual dinner & reception is only 4 hours, we wanted to get some of those things out of the way so there will be more time for the dancing/party portion

- dinner

- first dance, father/daughter, mother/son and then wedding party dance

- dance with the garter & bouquet toss sometime in the middle of the dance timeline

In Canada

- 8:00 p.m. appetizers & cocktails

- 8:30 p.m. guests will be asked to go into the room

- 8:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. wedding party introduction, slide show, centerpiece game and some very small speeches

- 9:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. lots of dancing

that's a great idea to do the toasts during the cocktail our. I think we're pretty settled on doing our pictures before the ceremony so we can enjoy every minute of the stuff we paid for (cocktail hour and reception) so that would fit right in! Thanks for the idea
