Just another opinion…

Kudos to all of you ladies who will make the Charity donations or who don't want gifts. We are the other hand are welcome to the gifts/money…

I have talked till I was blue in the face about this topic with my friends and family. Consensus from them is, donâ€t write that on the invitations. If people want to give you a gift they may feel itâ€s impolite to state that for everyone to see 'to not give a gift'. After all it is still a wedding, your wedding.

I am asking for people is to come on Saturday night for the wedding. The rest of the time is on them, itâ€s their vacation, no mandatory events. Just as you would go to a wedding and give a gift, itâ€s accepted to give a gift at a destination wedding. People are coming because they want to share this time with you, people also donâ€t want to be told to give a gift or not. JMO!

I was very adamant about not receiving gifts and my bridal party and immediate family, was offended. I was confused at first until I heard their opinions. All in all, I have been to theirs and given $300 and up. So now they go on a mini-vacation, see a loved one most important day of their lives (that's me) and give maybe $100 instead. I can honestly tell you that I am DEFINITELY not expecting gifts...but I DEFINITELY won't turn them away.

I agree that if people want to give gifts, then they can definitely do that and I would not accept that as it is rude. However, I don't want anyone to feel obligated to do so as a trip is not cheap and that is what a DW is for them. They will likely bring their kids which will increase the price for them. Thanks for the advice - I already know what I plan to put on the invites.

ONE PIECE OF ADVICE THAT I RECEIVED FROM ANOTHER DW BRIDE WAS TO SPREAD THE WORD WITH CLOSE FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT GIFTS ARE NOT EXPECTED. HOWEVER, REGISTER ANYWAYS! PEOPLE WANT TO GET YOU GIFTS. ITS BETTER TO REGISTER AND GET THE ITEMS YOU LIKE VERSUS GETTING RANDOM STUFF THAT YOU WILL NEVER USE AND HAVE TO TRY TO RETURN.

This is my EXACT same opinion!!! I have found a lot of people still want to give gifts and are asking where we are registered. If some people do not give us gifts, that is fine with me and if they do that is even better! When you think about it, esp for the BMs and MOH I have spent MORE $$ on going to Vegas and the ocean for their bach parties than they are spending to come to my wedding. When you go AI vs. staying at a hotel & going out in the states it is so much cheaper. I still think about how I spent over $1,000 to go to my friends 2 day long Vegas bach party and then gave her anohter $100 wedding gift not to mention the at home bach party and showers we did as well!!!

I set up a web page for guest to check out for all the travel info, I have a tab that says gift registry I put in that part: We only want your presence, if your unable to attend, please keep us in your mind and hearts on our special day.

I think you are just fine and not rude at all to let your guest know you don't want anything. Who knows maybe after having to pay for their vacation it might be a little relief! wink.gif

I agree with Taryn20. Many of my friends, family, and co workers who will not be attending have asked me where or if we've registered. I think it's a good idea even if you don't want or expect gifts. We don't really want or need anything but there are a few things I've had my eye on wink.gif
