David Pena Photography - Moon Palace

Recommended Posts

There was a link to the Moon Palace wedding pictures in the Moon Palace 2010 thread but I'm not sure what page. If I can find it I'll make sure to post it.

Thanks for starting this thread tho, I'm at Beach Palace and they use the same photographer. I don't want bad photos and an outside photographer will totally be too expensive since we really want to do a TTD too.

It seems like people either love or hate David Pena. Maybe it's his mood that day?? Our budget is probably not going to allow for an outside photographer either. I wish they have more information regarding the photographers that they have. I am very concerned with photography however, after you added in costs to pay for a room so the photographer is a guest, in addition to their normal costs, it make it so much more. However, MP packages are considerably lower compared to other outside photographers, but is it worth it if the pictures are not good?

Hi alison15,

My personal opinion is that this is your BIG day! Not only is the hair, venue, etc... important, but the photos are too. Photos are extremely important. I too was skeptical about paying a bit too much for photos. But you know what, You're gonna look at these photos and wonder what could've been if you had gone with a good outside photographer. You could never go back and redo the day. This is the way I looked at it and it helped me make my decision to go with an outside photographer. If I went with the Deluxe photo package that MP has available which is $1890, I would only be saving about $500 because the photographer I'm thinking of hiring is charging $2300. Is it worth the extra $500-600 dollars? Absolutely!! I used the deluxe package as an example because It's the package I would have chosen. You do whatever works for you. Hope this helps :)

DiamondGirl, that does help. I am trying to convince the FI on this too. I don't want to spend $1600-$1800 for crap. I just don't know if I am being too picky. My other concern is of course, getting an outside vendor that is not much better. I guess I am still looking at all the options however, if at this point a lot of outside photographers are already booked.

Alison15, that's exactly how I feel. I'm not spending money on crappy photos, better yet, money on crappy photos period!! LOL I'm not very picky but am selective on getting quality when it comes to certain things. Photos are one of those things. Have you tried Moments that matter photography? I've read awesome reviews on them and I've viewed their work on their website. They do amazing work and the price is right. They're the most reasonable thus far.

I think if there is one thing we should splurge on- it should be the photos. It is actually normal to spend 10% of the budget on photos. After all, it's the only thing we will really have left of the big day. At first, I was just going to go with any of the resort photographers. However, seeing other people's pictures taken by the resort photographers made me change my mind. I booked Octavio Montes at the last minute. His prices are really competitive and I love his aesthetics. He edits his photos and he'll even ship them for free. I was so happy that he took me on even though the wedding is nearly two months away. You can see his work at Cancun Wedding Photographers in Riviera Maya

I checked out Octavio's site and the pricing is pretty reasonable. Wow! I might reconsider using a resort photographer. We will only be needing a photographer for maybe 2 hours considering we aren't having a cocktail hour or reception.

I'm going with an outside photographer, even if it means that I have to cut back on other things. I like Moments that Matter and Tamms Photography based on their professional websites and the reviews that I've read on here. I don't want to gamble on our pics being less than stellar. One of the many valuable lessons that I learned when my son passed away 2 years ago was take advantage of every moment to create and capture memories. It's the memories that get me through the days when I hit rough spots and having pictures are just make the memories that much more special.

After all of the madness and fun are over; and the money is spent, your photos will be with you. People who weren't able to attend can live vicariously through your stories and photos. They will be what you look upon fondly on certain special occasions. To me, it's not worth taking chance.

CeeCee, since you only need a short time-frame, you may want to consider sharing a photographer with another bride marrying on your day or the preceding or following day. I've seen posts for this also.

As far as I know, the TTD is not available, but that's a great question for the WC - let us know what she says...There have been a few BDW members that go with the resort photographer and hire an outside one strictly for TTD.

'Just my two cents, everyone!
