Not one of my guests even considered looking into another resort. Part of the fun is being on vacation together, not just on the wedding day. Hopefully your guests feel the same way and will stay where you are. I wouldn't really give them an option. Just say this is where the wedding is, this is where we're staying, here is the TA info to book your trip. If someone decides to choose another resort explain that they will have to pay a day pass fee to get to your wedding site.

If I were invited to someone's dw I would expect to stay where ever they were staying.

It was more important for us to have it at the PPR and have it be amazing then to settle for somewhere else we did not love as much.
We are aware of the fee that guests will have to pay if not staying at the hotel and we are willing to pay this for the day of the wedding. I spoke with Teresa in length on Friday and she explained to me exactly how it works with guests from other hotels so let me know if you want more information but basically it costs $24 + 16% tax per person. So it is costing us about another $400 and we are willing to pay this.
I do not think this is outrageous at all but everyone has different priorities!!!

I think you said it best and atleast know that your place is more expensive and it's great you understand where some of the guests are coming from who aren't staying at the resort. I agree with people being there being top priority but it's all a personal decision. Realize that although the PPR is beautiful...there are other resorts that are just as nice but less pricey. I would have loved to go to the PPR for the wedding but my guests could not afford it and I didnt want to burden them because I wanted them there. Good luck with whatever you decide and what happens...lastly you need to be happy too with whatever you do!

If a bridegroom chooses to pay for the day passes of people that choose not to stay at the resort, then, really, it is only fair that she subsidizes everyone else's lodging fee by the same amount. That is an extra $50 - $100+ per person that attends the wedding. That does not sound right to me at all. When someone attends a wedding, typically the bridegroom is not responsible for the cost of getting them there whether it is a local wedding or not (you would not subsidize gas money for your guests for a local wedding, for example).

The dinger here is the 30% mark up on food in addition to the guest pass. Should the guest pay for the 30% increase in their plate fee for choosing a cheaper resort? That is the question at hand.

I wanted to add that if you have chosen the resort you love then that's where you should hold your wedding. It may be a little more expensive and that may mean that some guests may not be able to afford it and have to stay home. Dh and I chose our resort and knew that it may mean some people couldn't come. We loved our wedding location, had a great day with great people and wouldn't have changed a thing.

I agree with Amanda, no matter what location you choose you will NEVER make everyone invited to your dw happy. So, make sure you and FI are happy.

I totally agree with this too! Even if you chose to get married at the cheapest resort in the DR there will still be people complaining about the cost, so you might as well choose the resort that makes you happiest :)
