What can my brother do?

Recommended Posts

We have a wedding party of 6. 3 bridesmaids, 3 groomsmen. FI chose his best friend and two brothers. I really wanted my brother to be part of our wedding but I don't know how! We're not really having an usher or anything and I definitely do not want to add a fourth bridesmaid. Does anyone know what I can do to include my brother without making it seem like a pity inclusion?

Any help/idea is welcomed!

Thank you!!!!

I think a reading is a really good way of including your brother - it doesn't have to be religious or anything if your not into that...

If you are doing a sand ceremony, then maybe he can be the 'minister' for that bit? Say the speech about what the ceremony represents and then get you to do the pouring. He also gets to feel responsible for a part of your wedding then too...

We're having a similar issue - one of my brother's is in the wedding party & I'm going to ask the other one to do a reading. Or if you don't want that, maybe he could be in charge of tipping people that day or make sure people are running on time or the music is right - like an event coordinator of sorts.

My sister ran into a similar scenario for her wedding. Except in her case, she wanted to have an extra bridesmaid. In the end, there was an uneven number of wedding attendants (4 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen), but what she did was have both my other sister and I (who were bridesmaids), be escorded down the aisle by our brother (who was one of the groomsmen). In all of the wedding pictures with the bridal party, the three of us siblings were grouped together. She had a great photographer who chose poses for photos that didn't accentuate the unevenness. I'm not sure if this helps or not...just wanted to give you another option, if you wanted to have him as a groomsman. :)

You can have him do a reading. I originally did not ask my brother to stand up but due to swine flu, 3 BM dropped out ( 1 preggo and 2 with little kids) so I ended up having him stand up on my side. It turned out to be wonderful and he was so glad to be included (he originally kept giving me a hard time since he wasn't asked to stand up). SO- give him a job so he will feel included! He will appreciate it and your family will always be around even if you drift apart from friends. Good luck!
