I just recieved my contract and found out the same thing today. We wanted to get married by the Catholic Church first in Cancun to have an intimate ceremony, then upon arrival in the United States get married by the civil and have a bigger reception. I sent an email asking them if this was a problem.

now im really confused! below is the email I sent and the reply from the priest in cancun

"Good Morning,my partner and I are due to be married at The moon palace on 2nd June 2010 at 3pm for the catholic wedding package. I have been in contact with Wedding coordinator at Moon palace Cristina and she informs me that the wedding will not be legal. We have completed all the pre wedding classes at our church in the UK. Would it be possible for us to have a civil ceremony so that it is legal and then be blessed at the same time. It is very important to my partner and I that god is involved in our wedding"

Dear Clare, Greetings from "sunny Cancun". I spoke with Cristina and perhaps there was a confussion. Do not worry, you can be married here at the Immaculate Concption Chapel. The documents needed are: Baptism certificate (updatwd) Confirmation Certificate Pre-Cana course certificate A letter from your priest giving me permission to marry you outside your parish All the documents original, please Send me those documents and I will be glad to marry you. In Christ,

so is it legal?? waiting for confirmation back, ll keep you posted!

As soon as I put on my dress....I felt like a princess! I was holding my head a little higher and didn't want to take it off! It was also the only dress I walked out in and my mom burst into tears. When you try on the "perfect" dress you will just know!

Keep your options open...my dress is exact opposite of what I went into the dress process looking for.

Good luck in your dress shopping!

We asked the same question, if the civil could be after the catholic when we returned and we were told no, that the civil has to take place and all paperwork presented to have the catholic wedding.

I am concerned with the portion of original documents for baptism and confirmation. Not only will they take a while to dig out, I don't know if I want to risk losing those. Hmmm...

we were lucky, we contacted the church and they were able to give us new certificates etc. we then handed them to the Priest here and he filled out some more paperwork and sent it to the diocese in uk who approved it and then sent it to the diocese in mexico.

all this is so confusing, im sure it states on my paperwork somewhere that you can get married at MP with the catholic ceremony then get married legally again once you get home. thought this was suppose to be the easy option!!rofl.gif
