Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

We were going to do the preferred club with the plunge pool. We want to be on the first floor so it is easy for our guest to find us.  We went to a wedding at Dreams Tulum last year and the bride and grrom has a room very centrally located next to the main pool. Seems like something we are interested in also, but Dream Riveria doesn't seem to have anything comprable. We have ultimately decided on the Preferred club with the jaccuzi (i think it has one jaccuzi inside and one on the patio), first floor also.

sidenote, i REALLLLLY wanted a swimup room at Secrets but they don't allow kids and we have a few underagers coming. :/

A FEW MORE QUESTIONS:

We planned on treating everyone to some kind of retreat or excursion on the trip. With all the bad news coming out of Mexico lately I'm very upset i even chose Mexico, but its too late to change that. Recently i read a story of a charter bus excursion from a Mexican resort that was hijacked with machine guns and robbed for their money and jewelry. Fortunately no one was hurt.  However this just puts such a bad taste in my mouth... excursions and activities booked with a charter group are supposed to be safe, but nowadays its a crap shoot.

So my question is to anyone who has recently returned from their wedding and did something similar to this or anyone planning on doing this. A snorkeling trip, a booze cruise, swimming with the dolphins, etc. IF SO, who did you book through and what was the cost? We're looking for something fun, affordable, and safe that we can treat our guests to and spend a nice day together.

MY SECOND QUESTION:

Is their an on site barber for the resort? We are going a few days before the wedding just like mostly everyone, and on the wedding day the groom and groomsmen are going to either need a shape up or a haircut! The group of guys are very particular about their barber, and we have even contemplated flying him down with us, but increasing flight costs are getting out of control! Have any grooms out there dealt with this?

THANKS!

Hi Ladies,

I am struggling with a few things and i was hoping some of you might be able to provide me with some insight. I would be sooo grateful. Too many decisions!!!

We are getting married 11/30/2012 BTW

Ceremony start time:

My goal would be to start the ceremony as late as possible (but while we still have sun) so that there is a smooth transition from ceremony to cocktail to reception. I would prefer to have my reception start at 7pm so that it will at least go until 10 (i may extend to 11). Gina suggested a 4:30 ceremony, 5:30 cocktail and 7 reception. My concern with starting the ceremony at 4:30 is that the sun sets around 5:05, so even if my ceremony lasts 15mins, we will only have 20mins of photos before the sun sets. If i started at 4 or 4:15 Iâ€m not sure what my guests would do until the 5:30 cocktail, unless i moved my cocktail to 5 and then had a 1hr gap between the cocktail and reception. Do you have any insight? Have any of you considered taking some of your photos before the ceremony?? Sorry to ramble :)

Reception location:

North beach vs South beach. Gina has me at the south beach vs the north. does anyone know what the difference is? My ceremony is happening on the north beach and the cocktail is going to be at desires terrace...

I really appreciate any help i can get. Thanks!!!

I would suggest to have your ceremony at 4pm and then your cocktail hour still at 530. Your ceremony will never start on time and will probably be about 5 to 10 minutes late, it will last maybe 30 minutes. You can than use the extra 30 minutes left between the ceremony and cocktail hour to receive congratulations from your guest as well as take a few group pictures of the entire guest list, maybe some other pictures with people outside of your family and bridal party before they go enjoy the cocktails and apps. While they are doing that you can go continue taking pictures with your bridal party. Hope this helps.  Thats how I am doing it.

I'm getting married 12/17/12 so the light should be about the same for your ceremony.

I originally had 4pm as our ceremony start time, but once I emailed with Anel (the photographer) she said she would recommend starting earlier because starting at 4 would not leave enough time for pictures with sunlight.

So, now we're starting the ceremony at 3:30 and she said that should be perfect for group pictures in the light and then a few pictures right at sunset. Then our reception will be from 5:30-8:30.

Don't worry so much!  :)  Most of the dangerous parts of Mexico are near Alcapolco... on the other side.  Cancun is very safe, provided that you don't do anything stupid.

We planned on doing a snorkeling trip but it doesn't seem like too many people would want to.  We wanted to charter a boat but it worked out to be between 60-70 a person and most thought that was too pricy I think.

Check with the spa and see if there is a barber there.  I would think there would be.  :)
