Colleen in the previous reviews they said he is not very good.  You can ask your coordinator as there is another DJ approved with the resort.

I completely understand where you are coming from - choosing the resort was BY FAR the most stressful part of the wedding.  I agonized over it for months: how much is too much to ask people to pay?  What if the food isn't great?  What if the rooms aren't nice?  What if the drinks suck?  What if what if what if?  The actual wedding I couldn't have cared less about, I just wanted everyone to be happy.

Here's my take on it:

We stayed at the resort at the end of last April (2010) with my family (my parents already had the trip planned before we got engaged) and my FH and I rented a car to check out other resorts that were recommended to us. In the end, after driving all over the Riviera Maya, we still went with Dreams RC.  Two of my sisters who came with us have kids (so 4 people in one of the rooms) and the bathrooms didn't bother them.  To clarify, the actual BATHROOM (where the toilet is) has a door.  Yes, it's a frosted glass one.  But there IS a door!  Same with the shower.  The sinks and bathtub are in the open space.  The only situation where this might be a problem would be if you were staying with a complete stranger or had a teenager staying in the same room.  The rooms are beautiful, otherwise.

The food was amazing when we were there and only one of my sisters got sick (we were 9 adults and 3 kids in total) and I'm pretty sure it was because of all the alcohol and the food that she's not used to eating.  Don't forget that even in Canada or the US, if you go for Mexican, French, etc food, people get sick!  It doesn't mean the food was bad, it's just that we're not used to the richness/oil/fat of some of the dishes!  So maybe the recent reviews were just from a bad batch of food or not even, I don't know.

The towel game happens at every resort I have ever been to - I have yet to stay somewhere where people don't try to pull this.  It's frustrating, for sure.  We didn't have a problem with it, we even got the palapas by the pool some days, but we weren't there at peak season (and won't be again for the wedding) and we didn't really care where our chairs were.  The setup of the pools is such that no chair is really in a horrible spot.

I will agree that the noise is an issue.  We brought our iTouch that has a "white noise" app on it, so we were fine (there's a iPod docking clock in the rooms) but my mom and two of my sisters wore earplugs.

Also, there really isn't a ton to do in the evenings - the Lobby bar has live entertainment for a few hours, which is fun but that's about it.  We were fine with going to bed early on that trip but this time, we just plan on making our own party wherever we go!  We'll be enough people that I don't think it will be a problem.

In the end, my FH pointed out:  People will complain about things no matter where we choose, so let's choose a place where we know most people will be happy with most of it.  That's the best we can do.  We knew we loved the resort and yes, it was a bit pricier than we wanted, but I haven't been nervous for a single day since booking!

Not sure if this will help at all, but that was my experience!  It's awful making choices for other people so I completely empathize with you :(

Good luck and I'm so sorry this was so long!

L.

Hey there Maritza919,

thanks for sharing the experience you had on the site visit.

I have not heard back yet and I am still hoping I can get more info so that I can get a better sense of what sort of large group it is that will be there during my wedding weekend, and whether that night there will definitely be something happening at the pool or at least really close to our party at the pool deck or what.

I know it's always a crap shoot who else books an event during your wedding at a resort such as this, but I hope they can accomodate us and honor our requests from over a year ago and still have everything be nice, even if there is a little action happening at the same time somewhere else. We are pretty easy going overall, this just seems like it could spell trouble.

Like I said, all I want is to actually HEAR my ceremony, DJ music and speeches.

Hope that it all works out. Again, if any other brides who have experienced this in their past wedding have any insight to add as well, it would be super appreciated!

Hi there,

I was researching weddings happening at the same time at DRC, and found your post. I was just informed, cryptically, that there will be a "large group" at the resort the night of my wedding May 14th and the WC suggested we move our reception from the deck to the beach, which I do NOT want to do, since we have planned for the deck and had it reserved over a year now. (plus we have some older guests with knee problems and would rather not be on the beach.)

I was wondering if you could tell me a little about the night when 2 weddings were going on, and how the music clashed and whether it was really loud or just hints of music during dinner that did not take away from things like speeches and such. I am hoping if there is a large group nearby it won't be too bad.

Thanks so much for any insight you can provide!

Thanks Carbaholic - you calmed me down a bit. I know there's always going to be little things about every resort out there that will annoy or irritate. I guess when I started reading those reviews on Trip Advisor - it was just a whole bunch of negative all at once.
One of my other major concerns is the fact that DRC among many other resorts I'm sure...are hosting 3-4 weddings/day - and this really bothers me. I realize that having a destination wedding is THE thing to do and its clearly becoming more popular by the day - but the last thing I want is to feel like a  bride on an assembly line.
I know there's really no getting away from this - its just deflating a little when you want your day to be just about you...and for the most part I know it will be...I hope

Thanks again for your input - its truly appreciated

im just curious if anyone on here is getting married at DRC between june 1st and 5th, 2011? thats when I am going to be doing my site visit and I'd def. like a lil peak of how it unfolds lol i am still not 100% sold on this resort because im having trouble with its desolate location... i realized you cant even jet-ski here, is this true ? I look forward to things like that on vacation and I have a lot of young guests who will be looking for a good time on the other nights they stay.... however i booked it and im going to take a look lol ! I am praying that I fall in love with it and can book it for 2012.

also if anyone who was married there recently when you find some free time maybe you can write a review ? the other reviews are what made me book it in the first place and its def. nice to hear the details!! thanx girls

HI Sarah

Did they have anything around 6?  My TA told us for our May 12, 2012 wedding, sunset will be around 6 pm, that coupled with a 20 min ceremony that we should be able to get fantastic pictures. I think the weather channel has an app that will tell you the approx. sunset time.
