this is very true! I have her price sheet but I'm a little confused. Are her quotes per set or an each price?

I finally heard from Gabriela!!  She said that she wanted to get a lot of things decided 2 weeks before we get there and emailed me flower options. menu options and confirmed our date and times for the ceremony/reception.  I was so happy, it seems like she is alot more organized.  Since we have over 40 people she said we can have a private dinner in one of the restaurants--she only gave us El Patio and Himitsu as options though.  I emailed her back to see if Seaside Grill is available.  Does anyone have pictures of a reception at Seaside Grill or Himitsu???  I've seen El Patio and it looks gorgeous!

I am not personally in love with any of the centerpiece options.... haev any of you thought about making your own when you get there?  like maybe going to Walmart/Costo to get vases and then buying flowers... etc?  What are others doing for centerpieces that do not love the resort options or prices of $90 per centerpiece?  Thanks :)

Also- I am trying to get an itenerary together for my guests... where can we have an informal (like meetup) welcome cocktail at the Resort?  Also - I want to have a Bridesmaids luncheon-- any suggestions where we should do that?  Thanks again :)

From what I hear, it is very easy to get nice looking, inexpensive flowers in Cancun at the market.  According to the travel company, there is a free shuttle that runs to and from Cancun once a day.  I'm planning on buying my flowers there for the bridesmaid bouquets.

Also from hearsay, apparently the lobby bar is a good place to meet for cocktails because there is a lot of seating.

Hi Ladies!

I am new to the site and I am looking for a bit of advice. I am planning on getting married in December of 2011 and I would like to book my date within the next few months. I am debating on if it is necessary to use a travel agent...any advice? Also, how soon in advance were you able to lock in a price for rooms. I am just concerned about booking my date without knowing how much my guests will need to be spending per night. Thanks!

Hi KD2011!

I decided to use a travel agent because I noticed she was able to get a hold of people and get things done a lot faster than I was when I tried to do it on my own. Also, she was able to provide packages that included flight, airport transportation and hotel stay all in one price for my guests, which seemed much easier than going through the hotel, and also cheaper and more convenient overall.

Because all-inclusive resorts charge per person, getting a "wedding rate" isn't like your typical wedding block reservation of rooms. So you might want to look into that further. I am not sure how it works going through the resort, or if you can even do that without having to reserve all the guest rooms yourself ahead of time, which could cost a lot. Definitely worth investigating.

But my advice would be to go through a TA that will save you a lot of trouble and dealing with your guests' travel plans. A TA will take care of all that, and typically not charge you anything because they get commission from resorts and airlines.

hope that helps!

Welcome!

Agree with you about the lobby bar - I have heard the same thing and am planning to have an informal meet and greet there at the start of our trip for all of our guests as well.

I haven't heard about this free shuttle to Cancun... in fact I have read on the DRC facebook fan page many times that there are no free shuttles to Cancun or Playa del Carmen. You have to take a taxi, etc. Are you sure about this? Can anyone who has been there confirm?? It would be so great if this were true!

For the meetup cocktail you could do the lobby bar - Rendezvous - which has lots of room and live music most nights...

or you could try the desire's terrace - if your group is big enough you might be able to kinda take over the whole terrace (assuming it isn't reserved for a private event)

Originally I didnt see the reason to use a TA however if you want responces to any questions from the wedding coordinator in less than 3-4 months you need a TA.

I could send 3 emails asking for a response and still wait 3 months, my TA emails and gets me a reply the next day!! x
