Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

Hi All Having just got engaged, we are in the process of booking our wedding. We are looking to book DRC for end of may 2014, and having read all your reviews and comments I hope we are making the right choice. All the posts have certainly answered a lot of our queries without having to ring the resort every 5 mins. One question that I don't seem to be able to find is We are hoping to have approx 60 to 70 guests, my family are coming from the UK and will be staying at Dreams resort and Esther's family will be coming from other parts of Mexico and also staying at Dreams. The question is, we have a fair few friends that won't be staying at Dreams but just coming to the wedding . We are looking at having the Ultimate package which includes 20 guests. For the extra guests we have to pay $48 per person. What time can these extra guests come into the hotel resort ? Is the $48 only for the reception ? Or is this the cost of them entering the resort ? Can they drink, all inclusive for the time they are at the hotel ? Or does it only allow them to drink at the reception ? A lot of people have said they didn't have the cocktail hour and that their guests waited at the pool bar while pics etc were being taken, does this mean that these guests not staying at the hotel can use the bar as part of the $48 or do they have to pay for their drinks ( obviously not a problem for hotel residents as they are all inclusive) We are looking at getting married at 4pm, after service and pictures etc, I presume it will only be about 6- 6.30pm, what time did most people, or are most people starting their reception ? The package gives the reception at 3 hours, and extra charge for each hour over this, this would mean if we didn't pay for extra time , we would be over and done by by 9pm !!!!!!!! if people's reception is starting around 8pm what are or did most people do in between ? Think I have confused myself now !!!!! Hope someone might be able to help us Esther and Richard
Hello! I got married April 19th and all 35 of my guests stayed in a different resort.. Your guests (or you if you wish to pay?) will purchase a wedding day pass, $55 each. This makes them all inclusive at Dreams for there stay.. So they can get a drink from any of the bars. They can arrive 2 hours before the ceremony. I think most of my guests turned up 3 hours before, and I don't think it was problem. $48 is just for the reception dinner, you also have to purchase a wedding day pass for guests not staying at Dreams. These were my times.. Hope they help 4.30. North Beach Ceremony 5.00-5.30 Group Photographs 6.30-7.30 North Beach Cocktail Hour 7.30-10.30 Seaside Grill Reception After the reception we had a couple of drinks in the lobby

Hi!! I was just wondering if anybody had any advice on timings for an October wedding? From what I've been reading I was thinking the north beach for the ceremony at 4.30pm, cocktail hour at the north jacuzzi area at 6.00pm and the reception on the south beach at 7.30pm?. I'm not sure if these times will give us enough daylight for photos etc. And this may sound like a silly questions but do they still charge for plain white table cloths and napkins?. Oh and the last question for now, can we still have the dance floor if the reception is on the beach?. Thank youuu :)
Hello.. Yes you can use the dance floor on the beach and no there is no extra charge for white napkins and table cloths :)

They do charge for day passes in addition to the wedding costs.  If your quests are coming just for the wedding it's $55 for them to use the resort.  I was told they can arrive 1 hour before the ceremony but some of my guests arrived 2 hours before and it wasn't a problem.  I was also quoted about $85 if your quests want to come for a full day (at 10 am).

Hi Ladies,

I have a couple of generic questions as my wedding is approaching in 3 weeks!

How is the dress code in the restaurants? I know what the website lists but I am wondering how it actually is. Do men have to wear pants, can they wear shorts, kids dress, etc...

Also, this may be silly, do you drink the water at the resort? Brush your teeth with it? Is it filtered, bottled?

And last, is it extremely windy there? From the pictures I have seen it looks like it is! Is it like this all the time? This will help me with a decision on how to wear my hair!

TIA!

Hi Kerri,

I think the men really do have to wear pants at most of the restaurants. I forget which ones are exempt from this rule - the Seaside Grill, Oceana, and the World Cafe I think?  I didn't notice any men wearing shorts to the "pants restaurants" while we were there.  But women have it a lot easier!  They can wear capris, skirts, dresses, and I wore dressy shorts a few times as well.  Not sure about the kids dress-code.

We didn't drink the water from the tap in the room, but we did drink the water at the restaurants, which they pour from a pitcher into a glass. I think it is supposed to be filtered/treated so that it is safe to drink.  We mostly drank bottled water though.  It's readily available at all of the bars around the resort, and in your room.  We did brush our teeth with the water from the tap in our room.  However, a lot of our group had some stomach problems while we were there, so I'm not sure if that might be why!  I know some of the other wedding groups during our week had similar stomach problems, so maybe there was just something off during the time we were there.

It was very windy the whole week we were there.  Definitely a strong breeze every single day, although some days were windier than others.  Our day was extremely windy, and I wore my hair down and with a veil like I had planned, but it does look pretty messy in some of the pictures, especially the ones on the beach in front of the water.  One of my bridesmaids had her hair tied back very neat & tight (with braids etc) and hers lasted a lot better than the others who had their hair half up or loosely up.  If you look at our video at about 6 and a half minutes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRv6MIAelSc), you can see how windy it was!  I ended having to hold my veil or tuck it under my arm or into the back of my dress for most of the ceremony & pictures, which kinda drives me nuts now looking at it.  At the same time, I loved my veil so much and am happy I wore it.  I asked the girl in the salon who was doing my hair if it was always that windy there, and she said yes, but at the same time I know some brides on here were lucky and had much calmer days than mine!

We finally got our slideshow!  We were married on April 18, 2013 and Santiago was our photographer.  Funny, I just noticed that we had a lot more seaweed on the beach during our wedding than most of the other brides on here.  Not sure if it is because of the time of year, or if they were clearing it away less that week or what.  Just an observation, haha.  I wish they could have included all of our pictures in the slideshow, but there were too many for the song I guess.  Anyway, here's the link:

Hi Lori!

Thank You for the response! I just watched your video and slideshow and I think I will be wearing my hair up! That wind reminds me of the sort of wind we had in Aruba last year it was crazy! Your day looked absolutely beautiful!  I cant believe we are leavin in less than 3 weeks now! It sure did come fast!

Hi ladies- I am getting married at Dreams on August 16, 2013- coming up fast! I had a few questions: 1) Did anyone get married last August? We are having a hard time deciding whether or not to have the reception inside because of the heat. The outdoor set ups look amazing but I'm afraid that I'll be too hot to enjoy it 2) Does anyone have pictures from a reception in the ballroom? We were disappointed to see that the ballroom did not have any windows and were curious to see how it looked once it was decorated. 3) We are having 70 people at the wedding and the upcharges are getting out of control. We need to decide upon decorations and flowers (which cost a FORTUNE). What would you recommend for center pieces and decorations? Do you have any pics you could send me? Thank you for all your help- wish I had discovered this board earlier! Christine
