Best Way to Rick's Cafe???

Recommended Posts

We're thinking of planning a trip with our wedding guests to Rick's Cafe in March 2010. I was wondering what is the best way to get there from Rui Ocho Rios...by land or by sea?

Has anyone chartered and Catamaran to take a large group? Or should we stick with the excursions offered at the resort? Or would a bus tour be better?

Its a good 3 hours by land -- I know b/c we stayed in Negril, but did the Dunn's River Falls climb which is close by to ROR. It was a looonngg bus ride. Dunno if by sea would be shorter. Might be a cool catamaran trip out to Rick's from ROR. Catmaran would be better than bus, at least you can wander around the boat, have drinks...etc. The sunset is pretty killer on 7 mile beach, I definately recommend it! :)

Just like Sloan mentioned, the distance from Ocho Rios to Rick's Cafe is at least 3hours. Rick's Cafe is in Negril which is on the west side of the island, while Ocho Rios is on the north side. Montego Bay is kind of a half way point between the two. So not only is it far, but it would also be expensive to charter a bus/taxi. I don't believe there are any catamaran trips between the 2 points - most people who go to Rick's, go for the sunset, which means you would be traveling back to Ocho Rios in the dark and I can't imagine them allowing that. Sorry!!

I would recommend hiring a taxi/van/bus depending on how many people you have going with you. Typically this is something your resort can assist you with. I haven't been down there in awhile, but I believe you're pretty much on the same road the entire time - the road just winds along the coast and will take you from Montego Bay all the way to Negril - it's called Norman Manley Blvd. And yes, it should take about an hour and a half.

You'll have a great time if you go :)

I agree. If the ride wasn't so pretty, I might say no, it's not worth it, but it really is a fun drive. You have the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other, and it's a really scenic ride. And every time I've made the drive, our driver will stop along the way for us to use the restroom, grab a few more beers and take some pictures. And the sunset is amazing there as well. Plus you can watch the cliff divers - or even take a dive yourself (I've jumped from the cliffs there befoe and it was a blast!). And to top it off, they have some really good food as well. I say go for it!

We went there from Tralawney 15 years ago the road was badly constructed but we had a great day.You could start the day early stop in Montego Bay swim do a boat trip there on a catamaran then head off to Ricks cafe early evening. We had a fantastic meal there watched the people jumping and cried at the prospect of having to go home following our fantastic wedding fortnight.

Make a full day of it.xxxx
