I got a non-traditional ring too. I told my FI that I didn't want any diamonds mainly due to conflict diamond issues. So here's what he got me, and he made sure the diamonds on the band were conflict-free. He also got me a wedding band with diamonds so I wouldn't get diamond envy, which were also conflict-free.
