Holguin weddings...

Hi folks!

I really, really like how Holguin sounds. So I think I am going to book one of the resorts there... however I can't decide which one! Most of you seem to have chosed Playa Pesquero - however I much prefer smaller resorts... i think Pesquero will be too large for me to really enjoy...

So did any of you check out/stay at any of the other resorts in the area? I'm really interested in the Playa Costa Verde (beside teh Playa Pesquero), Sol Rio de Luna y Mares, the Blau Costa Verde, the Occidental Grand Playa Turquesa (which isn't on the occidental website... weird) and maybe, if they are all washes, the Playa Pesquero.

Anyway, any insights into these places... any at all... would be really helpful. Thank you!

Have you tried checking out tripadvisor at all? That helped us narrow down our decision to Playa Pesquero. It is indeed a large resort, however, our group was very small, only 15 people, and we ALWAYS found each other! There were a few places we ended up running into our guests - the beer gardens and the lobby coffee bar - best coffee ever!

In addition, DH's mom learned at the orientation (that we missed, on account of meeting with our WC) that Playa Pesquero is one of two (I believe) resorts in Holguin that is wholly Cuban-owned. The rest are mostly owned by European countries, I believe. Us and our guests really enjoyed the resort, the beach, the people, everything! Just my two-cents. smile78.gif

As far as I know, you can't own anything unless you are Cuban and all the resorts are owned by the Government.

Yes, I think you're right... Playa Pesquero and Playa Costa Verde are, I believe, the two that are Cuban owned - the others are all members of chain hotels, and might be owned by cuban business partners, but they are definately chain hotels - Blau, Occidental, Sol....

But anyway... I have looked on Trip Advisor, its one reason why I like Playa Costa Verde... just hoping for some firsthand accounts - its so hard to take everything from tripadvisor seriously sometimes. Particularly when the people who leave the reviews are from totally different countries... different standards, I suppose.

Anyway, thank you for your thoughts... I welcome more!!!

The resorts are a little different so it really depends on what you're looking for.

Brisas - Hotel area and Village area. So what that means is 2 pools, 2 swim up bars, 2 buffets. This was kind of nice since you could switch things up a little more.

Playa - Is one big resort. This resort does have jacuzzis in gazebos around the resort which were fun at night. Careful if it rains at the resort...ceramic tiles are everywhere and they got slippery.

Both resorts had lots of activities, outings and entertainment. Not sure if this helps you any...but good luck in picking a resort.
