Ok so I am going on a cruise for our wedding and once we port in St. Thomas we are getting married. Did any of you guys ask someone to be a bridal attendant or did you just assume your bridesmaids are?

I want to ask my FI's brother’s FI to my bridal attendant but is it necessary to have one? I was also thinking about stating if I need someone to stand in if she could. Did you do this and how does one ask to be an BA and maybe a BM?
