Doggie Hot Spots....

Our dog, Mabel, she is about 7 or 8, developed some hot spots on her neck this past week. We are moving and she seems stressed out by all the packing, boxes and change.

 

I talked to my Vet and their 1st course of action is Steroids which I am not a fan of. My DH did some research and shaved down the spots this morning with clippers, then put an Apple Cider Vinegar and water mixture topically. i also gave her a Benadryl earlier to take the edge off.

 

She seems to feel a bit better but I am worried about her!

 

Has anyone else dealt with this? Any natural remedies??

This sounds really naive, but what are hot spots? Are they just actual parts of her body that are hot to the touch, or is it something you can see?

Poor Mabel I remember my cat freaked out when I was moving out of my ex's apt. Animals seemed to get very stressed by those changes. I hope once you guys get settled into the new place she'll be ok.

 

You know, since you mentioned this it reminded me of something else. Is Mabel very attached to you? We got our dog Yaz about 2 or 3 months before Aiden was born and she was super attached to me. When I had was in the hospital having Aiden, although I was only gone 2 nights and Brian did come back home and spend the night she flipped out and went through some sort of separation anxiety. I also think she sensed something was changing. She ate through wires, pooped all over the rug, scratched up furniture, etc. Brian crated her but then she started freaking out in her crate so he let her sleep in the room at night and that's when she finished off the job she started. She's a very high anxiety dog. I don't know if Mabel is, but if she tends to get stressed out easily and she's very attached to you, just keep that in mind. I don't know what you can do (besides crating her if you do that), but if you think she might have the same reaction as my dog, then it might be worth thinking about now because I literally came home to a destroyed house.

Well she is super attached to me and i did go away last weekend for a shower and Bach party so maybe that combined with the packing and moving - who knows? She is usually very laid back and chill so low anxiety but she really doesn't like change. luckily my DH is so patient and is doing a holistic treatment 3x a day - if she doesn't have marked improvement by Monday we will take her to the Vet
