Need help picking a location, leaning towards Dreams

Recommended Posts

Sarah - thanks for that, I think I needed to hear it!

When I was down in Playa doing site visits I kept thinking of YOUR wedding video, and I realized that location was what I kept envisioning in my mind for the "perfect" wedding. So, needless to say none of the places we looked at even came close! I got all excited when Martin agreed that Iberostar just wasn't right for us, and I thought that you had gotten married at Dreams Cancun. When I realized it was actually Dreams CABO I was bummed again because of the prices! But I think you are right - it's OUR WEDDING and if I let a little money get in the way I REALLY think I will regret it. So thanks again for your words of encouragement from your "soapbox" (lol!). I think I will start looking further into Dreams Cabo - yeah baby!!! (Excited again! Haha)

We actually want to go to Dreams Cancun next year- or somewhere besides Cabo (we've been there three times in a year) so I looked quickly at price differences. You're right, it is significantly more to go to Cabo, but if you get a room block and shop around for flights, I bet you will end up paying about $600-800 more per week per room. It is a large price difference, but, again, you have to do what you want to do. If you want a larger number of guests, probably go for the cheaper place..We couldn't have cared less who was there besides our family so we went with Dreams Cabo.

I wish I could go visit both, but I think we'll only be able to do one more site visit between now and our wedding.

I just *really* like the look of the rooms at Dreams Cabo as well as the Gazebo wedding area there. The Gazebo at Dreams Cancun is definitely still nice tho. However, we don't really like the touristy Cancun area cause it feels too much like the U.S. w/all the restaurants and such. I would pick Playa del Carmen over Cancun but we haven't really found a hotel there yet that we like wedding wise... Things sure have started to get complicated once that ring went on my finger! rant.gif cheesy.gif

Jaime,

Just to throw something in this as well, but the weather is different from Cabo to Cancun. You get the cool evenings in Cabo b/c it's on the Pacific side, and Cancun typically stays warmer due to the Atlantic. Not a huge deal depending on the time of year, but I was shocked the first time I went to Cabo b/c I had been to Cancun several times prior...it can get chilly!

Also, from DFW, it's a 2.5hour flight to Cabo on AA direct. Continental, Delta, Frontier, Alaska, US Airways all fly to Cabo as well (for your guests).

I've been to both locations before (high school to Cancun, and the rest of my years in Cabo). Feel free to PM if you need help. I find Cancun much more party-style atmosphere, and Cabo much more laid-back, depending on where you are, of course. But Cabo is significantly more expensive (traveling, food, everything) but IMO, totally worth it.

It is beautiful...!

Jill, thanks for the heads up! It was just about a 2.5 hr flight to Cancun as well, but then an extra hr. bus ride to Playa del Carmen. I agree with your view on Cancun being a party style atmosphere. Also, just how chilly does it get? We are planning a Summer wedding, probably late June or July.

Sarah, the lack of rain sounds wonderful for wedding planning! I'm starting to get excited of the possibilities of Cabo now, and Martin is too! Thanks ladies. smile159.gif

Late June or July it won't be too chilly. In Feb, it was only 50-60 at night in Cabo. For our wedding in May it was very pleasant at night- 60-70. I'm sure it's even a little warmer later in the summer. There is a really nice breeze at night. I usually just wore my Pash from Glenda or my "Future Mrs S..." hoodie in the evening and was very comfortable.

I would try my best to get late-June and not July...it really heats up in the summer and the earlier the better! I've been in August and the heat is unbearable, so I woud shoot for June if you can.

But the good news is that it does cool off in the evenings, so even if it's super hot, it's always cooler at night to give some relief from that Mexican sun!
