It's beautiful....and maybe you want to call around to seamstresses and explain the issue to get an idea of what sort of alteration fees you would be looking at. I think if you still love the dress, but just want it to fit, that would be the best way to go -- good luck!

I actually just booked my first alteration appointment for Sept 9th!!!

This lady that lives here is the best (she has been around for decades and has photos of her with celebrities etc) so when I got her pricing, I thought it was going to be outrageous, but for the hem, taking the dress in, fixing a few other things, and steam cleaning it, she said it would be around $225-$250 - which I think is good.

Oh yes, the alteration is a good idea, because if you don't find another dress you love as much, you're going to have second thoughts! You made a good decision! Good luck, i hope it works out for you!

The train detaches?! I love it! I think the alteration price sounds reasonable. I do agree with some other posts that the closer ties look better. Woo hoo for losing the weight
