Riviera Maya 2010

I know the 5th of May is a holiday in Mexico, I didn't know about the 1st.

Either way, we've decided to do the symbolic wedding. It's so much more work to have to get bloodwork done, documents completed, etc. and the date we wanted was too close to our arrival date (we wanted to have the wedding earlier in our vacation).

I don't feel like we'll be "lying" to everyone, they're coming to celebrate our union....and to have a good time. We're super easygoing about this whole process though, we're making sure it's completely stressfree and fun. If a legal ceremony is really important to you, would you consider another date?

Hope things work out for you and welcome to the boards!

Welcome! I'll be having my wedding in Riviera Maya in November 2010. I also was frustrated with all of the legal hassles to have the wedding in Mexico. I decided on a small legal ceremony here in NY before we head to Mexico for the big shindig. It's just easier. To do the legal ceremony in Mexico, we would have to get our documents translated into Spanish, get blood work and chest xrays done in Mexico, and be there 3-4 business days before the wedding. Just seems like alot.

Congratulations Annette and welcome to the forums! I would say in all the weddings we cover it is pretty close to 1/2 legal and 1/2 symbolic. Lots of people are doing the legal part at home and then coming down to the beaches to say their vows. The only difference I see is that sometimes there is MORE romance and magic when I see the symbolic ceremony before you are actually married back home in front of judge.

Best of luck!

Pacific- I hope you didnt take offense to what I wrote. I was just saying what my friends told me... I wasn't trying to be rude or anything (sometimes emails etc lose the nice tone of voice).

We are really laid back too and I understand where you are coming from. We thought about getting married here before the trip to make it easier too but it all seems to be pretty easy at GP and would almost be more work to work it all out here first.

Anyway, I am sorry if I upset you. It was not my intention.. I was trying to help. wink.gif

The 1st is a holiday, I have to pay a $50 fee to have the judge come for the legal ceremony for May 1st. Primero de Mayo is the Mexican national holiday that is equivalent to the U.S. Labor Day.

I hope that you are able to work throught it, we wanted the the first Saturday in May and it happened to be the 1st. It also worked with hotel and flights. The land dropped A LOT after the April break and I still wanted it to be cool in NY when we left. =) We leave April 26th.

Good luck planning and WELCOME!!!!
