How many stores can I register at?

Is there any reason why we should NOT register at more than 2 stores (maybe 3 or 4)? I have a few different stores that I would like to register for but it seems as though most brides only register at 2. Is there a reason for that?

Maybe so you don't end up registering for the same thing at more than one store? Or so your guests don't buy you something at one store that you registered for at another? I'm not really sure. We're registered at 3 places.

We registered at 3 places. 4 seems like too many, but I don't have a reason why!

I read in a couple ettiquete books that there is technically not a # that is wrong or right...but I think more than 3 or 4 might start to get a little too much.

I personally like when people register at like 3/4 places that way I can go to the stores I like or have coupons too so I get a better deal. Also I read this as a guideline of where you should register: at an upscale store, inexpensive store and a wild-card company like a charity or a honeymoon fund. Here is an article about it too:

We registered at 2 places with different "vibes" - one is more upscale and the other is as practical, but readily affordable. I love the idea of a "wildcard" store (like the honeyfund).
