DIY OOT bag koozies, luggage tags & other stuff

Recommended Posts

I had so much fun making OOT bags for our wedding, that it's something I've started doing for family trips. I don't make anything as elaborate as our wedding OOT bags, but I'll paint names on cups of something like that.

We just booked our 2 year anniversary trip to Hawaii & our mom's are coming. Both of their birthdays are soon, so I made them Hawaii kits.

I thought people would be interested in some of the things I made for OOT bags.

Koozies:

yes, mike's fish is pooting. when i made our wedding cups he said he wanted the bubbles coming out of the fish's butt, so I did the same on his koozie.

I got the koozies for 40cents at Michaels today. I may have been undercharged though. They might be $1, but there was a misplaced sign.

The foam stickers were in a 60% off summer section. They were only $3 for a bunch of them. It was about 300 stickers & 600 letters.

They have non-clearance foam stickers too.

It was so easy. Just lay out the design, peel the back & stick it on. The most time consuming part is finding the letters. If you were making a bunch, you could sort out the letters & it would go fast.

They are stuck on there really good.

I also made this pirate one for a friend with a 30cent clerance set of stickers. They do not stick as good as the fish ones.

More Hawaii stuff:

This is my MIL's bday gift. I got the bottle opener for about $5 on ebay. The album is from maps on leather.com. I also bought that on ebay for $20-$30. It's handmade, but the quality isn't excellent. It it a little wobbly and the picture holders are not really nice. It's good, just not great.

The coin pouch & hair flower is a left over from my OOT bags from oriental trading.

The CD is music I bought of amazon. I made the label & stomped it on. Only use completely blank front discs with labels. Otherwise it can mess up in your CD player.

I made the image in photoshop. It's a picture of mike's parents at our wedding. I added the lay, umbrella, ukalalie, & background.

I used the same image on a luggage tag. I made that using shrinky dinks following these steps. http://www.microsoft.com/canada/home...h-your-pc.aspx

I didn't write with a marker, but typed the name in a white box.

The shrinky dinks tags were a PITA to make. I finally got it down. I messed up several when I first started making them. It's probably not a project I'll do again now that I'm out of the shrinky dink printer paper.

OK That is my MIL's gift. My mom is getting a hair flower for each day of the trip. I posted that here http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...014#post913391

Here are more pictures of making the luggage tags. I made them recently for my mom, bro & SIL when they flew out to visit.

It wasn't the most fun project. I burnt myself on the shrinky dinks several times. They curl up while baking & it's hard to keep the corners from sticking. I found that if I baked until it started to curl & then opened the oven door for a few seconds, it worked better. I guess it cools off at just the right time.

It also helps to have paper ready to smush it flat once it's done baking. my first ones were really wavy.

Just when I got the hang of it, I ran out of paper. I doubt I'll buy more.

The tag holders were from ebay.

I put two on each 8x10 sheet

cut it out & punched holes (another tip- stay farther from the edge than this if you can.)

I just put on their name, city, phone numbers. Type it in a completely white box. I tried using a faded background, but everything gets darker once baked so it was hard to read. Black text on white works best.

I painted them with clear nail polish on the front to protect it & add a shine
