hello!

my fiance and i are planning a wedding in the bahamas for June 2010. we aren't looking for anything super-fancy, just a nice beach w/ clean rooms that is easy to get to for our guests. right now, i am thinking about our lucaya radission (grand bahama island), wyndham (nassau), or sheraton (nassau). we expect ~50 people. any help would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks,

patrick

We were married last January in Nassau, with our reception at the Wyndham. We chose the Wyndham over Sheraton due to price (less expensive packages) and they are side by side, so you pay for the lesser one but have benefits of the Sheraton if you wish. The Wyndham also has the casino and ran a few golf packages (which basically turned our wedding into a golf trip for the guys LOL). I feel comfortable recommending the Wyndham (which has 2 on staff coordinators) but do have a concerns you might want to address beforehand (small things like separating all our guests into different towers, and what seems to be a policy of allotting the worst rooms out first - almost all of our guests asked to moved and were accommodated). If you want more information just let me know; I will be happy to share.

Im getting married at the Whyndam in Nassau as well just because of the reasons you listed, packages were amazing and the wedding coordinators there is awesome, If you are looking for great photographers check out dlweddings.com these two are awesome! They are a married couple and work great together!

I'm trying to decide between the Sheraton and the Wyndam. I really like the Sheraton's beach pavillion because my FI is hesitant about having his feet out (LOL). Does anyone know if the Wyndam uses the same pavillion (on the beach with no feet in the sand)?

Hello -

We plan on getting married at the Sheraton in Nassau. I haven't heard to many good things about there WC though so it is still up in the air. Hopefully everything goes smoothly.

I just wanted to chime in because I heard from more than one person that the Wyndam may be closing. I even think one of my guests said that somewhere on their website they say they will be closing? Just wanted to give you a heads up in case it was true.

I just found an article that states:

"In another sign the weakening economy continues on its troubled path, Baha Mar officials advised staff of the Wyndham Nassau Resort and Crystal Palace Casino yesterday that they plan to close the Cable Beach property for two months later in the year.

The property will close August 17 through October 5, said the company, noting that this period represents the traditional slowest tourist season and falls during the height of the hurricane season."

Based on this, they closed this summer for a couple of months. There were several articles that mentioned this same time period

Hi I lived in Nassau for 2 years and my Fiancee's office was right next to the Wyndham. The Wyndham is very run down and the Sheraton has just finished being refurbished and is very nice, the casino is in the Wyndham but it is also linked to the Sheraton. The Casino at Atlantis is much bigger and better than the Wyndham. The restaurant Moso inside the Wyndham does great asian food and the steak house is not bad but generally they only open one of them each night.

For a great night out the club Bamboo in downtown is a lot of fun. Hope this information helps.

Have to agree. If the Wyndham is the old Crystal Palace...it is very run down. Last time I was there...a mouse ran across our feet in the lobby....seriously.

As for the casinos, there is no comparison to the Atlantis, but when times were better, we would often travel to the Crystal Palace casino to find lower priced table games as the games at the Atlantis were too high. Now that times are bad...there is no need. On my last three trips to the Atlantis...$5 tables were more than available...something that was never seen a few years before.

Kiwibride....can you recommend a local restuarant where I can have a dinner for approximately 75 people the night before? I'm looking for real Bahamian food...thanks.

That's nice to know kiwibride, Thanks!

My intentions were to have my wedding at the Wyndham regardless since I did love the fact that they had the Boardwalk Wedding Gazebo. However, I was contemplating on staying at the Sheraton or the Wyndham, but I guess I'm leaning towards the Sheraton, but I thought I read somewhere that they were renovating this winterhuh.gif!?
