Thanks for the info, my TA emailed them b/c we will have over/around 60 and they said we could still do the free wedding just pay for the extra cake and wine but didnt get the cost/person. My next question is if I outsource my cake would I have to still pay for the cake upgrade? Just a thought, not sure if anyone would know the answer to that but thought I would throw it out there

Here the info I got from Riu:

"Kindly inform you that in order to qualify for the Free Wedding Package 2010, the couple must have at least 10 rooms booked (20 persons as minimum). We do not require a maximum number of guests.

The Free Wedding Package 2010 includes sparkling wine and cake for 20 persons only. The couple would need to pay an additional cost for the extra cake and wine for the rest of your guests."

So according to the Riu Wedding Sales Coordinator there is no max size for the free wedding.

The way I look at it is you can always upgrade; it may be more difficult to downgrade. Most wedding decisions don't happen until you get to the resort anyway so if you booked a free wedding and then closer to the date when you confirmed your numbers, said you want to upgrade to the caprice package because your party of 10 turned to a party of 55, then I am sure they would not have a problem with it.

For most things when I priced it out, I found the free wedding plus add-ons worked out to be cheaper. I would only do packages if I actually cared about all the little extra frills they throw in (some of them are actually nice so really it is up to you).

i think the caprice and royal packages works well if you have a big group and are planning on having the 'semi-private' reception/dinner. I think that's what most of the upgraded cost covers. If you are having a private reception which you have to pay extra for anyways then you mind as well get the free package and use the $2500 difference in price to upgrade your cake, flowers and champange....plus paying for the private reception. Does that make any sense?

Along with trying to decided on the Free Package vs. Royal Package. I am also trying to decided if I want to do a private reception or semi private reception. Does anyone have any advise on these? Also for those who did the semi private reception, did you go to the disco afterwards for dancing?

Thanks for that piece of information. That may change how we do things. How much are the private options? We were already wanted to do the poolside dancing, so if we are going to have to pay for if we have over 50 ppl it might as well have the full out reception.
