Symbolic Ceremony?

Recommended Posts

My fiancee and I are getting married in the US before we go to cabo. We dont plan on telling a lot of people, just to keep the "specialness" of the occasion as high as possible with our guests. We're not bummed we're going it before. Also, our best friend is going to marry us since it's only a symbolic wedding.

My fiance and I are getting married in the US before as well. There will be select people who actually know, i'm afraid some of the guests will get upset that "they spent that money to go there and it wasn't the real deal."

We figure it will just be easier that way, one less thing to deal with when we go.

Like many others, we are getting married in the states before, then the symbolic ceremony in Mexico. We mainly decided to do it for legal reasons. We just want to make sure it will hold up in court (not for divorce reasons of course), but for other legal matters in the future. I'm sure a legal marriage in Mexico will hold up in the U.S., but I guess we're just a bit more cautious than most people. I don't think it would be that much of a hassle to have it legal in MX. So many brides on here have done it w/o any problems!

We're definitely doing the real thing in Cabo. The only drawback really is cost. We were planning on being there early anyways so that's not an issue and our WC is taking care of everything for us. All the paperwork should be in place before we even get there and we'll do the bloodwork at her office when we're finalizing plans with her. We wouldn't consider doing it any other way. We have up to 70 people coming and that's a long way to fly and an expensive commitment to make. We want to ensure they witness the real thing.

I decided on symbolic as well, due to the time, bloodtests (didnt really want to do them in mexico) and the hassle ive heard about from some on getting the paperwork translated here when you get back.

My MIL did not like this, love her, this was a huge issue to her. Note - dont make the mistake of telling ppl, unless you know they wont freak out.

Solution - my great uncle who married my grandparents, and parents is coming to MExico to marry us. We will sign the paperwork with him when we return home.

Even though it is the exact same thing, kept MIL quiet........lol.

How was your wedding at the Hilton Los Cabos. My wedding will be there on December 19, 2009. Who was your WC - and how many guests did you have? I would appreciate any info/advice you have for me - and we also, are doing the legal ceremony there instead of Texas.

My husband and I had our legal ceremony first in the US, then had a symbolic ceremony in Cabo. Our legal ceremony was in our living room, just us and the JP (no witnesses required in our state). Both ceremonies were special in their own way. The one at home was special because it was just us, then the one in Cabo was so amazing with all our family and friends, plus the religious element of being married by a minister. And I was a lot less nervous for the wedding in Cabo, no matter what we were already married, I could just relax and have fun!! Both weddings were wonderful. Good luck!! :)
