Name Change Information

Do guys have to do anything (paperwork wise) to show he's married? I know women that change their name have to do a ton of crap, but I wasn't sure what the guys need to do. If anything...

possibly for insurance purposes but that's about it.

So he would let his insurance (health and vehicle) know that he's married. What about for income taxes?

In Canada you have to for your taxes so I would assume in the US you would too. Just when tax season comes around you have to say you are married and not single. He would have to tell his job as well.

And someone mentioned to me that all will's need to be updated because they are voided after being married, I'm sure that goes along with life insurance policies too.

I would assume the same applies for a guy that does for a girl. The only difference with the girl is the legal name change. Other than that, he'd have to update his payroll/benefits through work, any credit card/loans (I'd do the credit reporting agencies too), any insurance information, etc...

 

I think when he updates his information through his work, that will back up the status change for taxes and when it comes time to file income taxes, he would just choose married instead of single. But I can't say for certain tho...

 

This is a good question tho--- something I wouldn't have thought about...

They would not be voided, everything depends on the policy and who the beneficiary is. Same with will's, he should update everything so that your interests are protected, but it is not mandatory.

I wouldn' think he would have to, unless he want's to add you on to the loan, and I can' think of a reason why you would want to be on existing loans.

Just change the beneficiaries will make it binding. on insurance. I can ask Lawrence tonight because that is what he does.
