What's the worst that could happen...?

Hi everyone,

 

I was hoping that you could be able to help me out with this.. I have searched other threads and responses for this and was unable to find general answers. If they are out there, forgive me for posting this and mod's please feel free to delete.

 

I'm very, very new to all this.. my boyfriend and I aren't even engaged yet, but are talking about things and doing things a bit backwards. We know that next summer will be our wedding (2010)... (so things will be moving along shortly... let's hope!)

 

We really like the area around Riviera Maya with the cenotes and natural beauty, eco-parks and great resorts. I read the thread that the Barcelo Maya Palace recently changed their policy AGAIN which now states there are NO outside vendors. I understand this and get this.. but here's my question..

 

I have read reviews and seen MANY, MANY pictures of weddings that have happened at the BMP with outside photogs and have read of other resorts in Jamaica that also didn't allow outside vendors, but yet some people have gotten around it.. How did you get them in?

 

I want to bring in a photog to do shoots before and after the wedding- at the rehearsal dinner, wedding, and day after for TTD... and I do also want to use the photog. that the resort provides to get the most out of the day. If I were to pay for the photog's stay in the resort for however many days and he were to be a guest, and then still use the resort's photographers... what do you think could happen? I would still be abiding by the resorts wishes.. just maybe trying to bend it a little...?

 

Have any photographer vendors had any problems if there was another photographer there? Any issues arise/problems??

 

Any tips... help to offer?? Anything would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Mandy!

 

I think that if your photographer is a paying guest at the resort, it shouldn't be a problem. I mean, it's not like they're going to be patting everyone down looking for cameras at check in. The policy is in place to get you to use their photographer, so if you're still going to use theirs and your own photographer is staying at the resort, there's no way they could have a problem with that.

I agree. I don't have experience with this since my resort does allow outside vendors, but if he is a guest of the resort, how would the resort know that it's a hired photographer and not just your uncle with photography skills?

My soon to be mother in law is a photographer and naturally she will be shooting our wedding. As said above, they cant stop your "paying guests" from taking pictures. I am too trying to decide btwn Barcelo Maya beach and Sandos Playacar beach for my upcoming wedding in Jan 2011. I do know that you cannot pay a fee that some of the other resorts offer for off site vendors. So unless you have a family member that is coming for the wedding, you might run into some problems. I wouldnt take the chance though....I have heard some resorts have charged upwards of $300 US on top of the off site vendor fee of$90 to have a photgrapher come in. Talk to Gabirelle at the Barcelo and see what she says....

Let me know how it goes as Im interested to see if there are any loop holes out there for the other girls looking to wed there.

Hi ladies,

 

I am getting married at the Barcelo Maya Palace next April, and have been in contact with Gabriella (on of the WC's) regarding this very subject. She confirmed to me that as long as your photographer is a guest at the resort, then it's fine, he can take pictures and you won't be charged an extra fee. So as long as your photographer has a resort bracelet to show he's a guest, I wouldn't worry about it! :-)

Our photographer isn't staying at the resort, but we'll be buying him a 'guest daypass' like you would do for a guest staying at another resort.

We are staying at the Catalonia Riviera Maya and they have outside vendor fees but all the photogs I've contacted said they would just stay at the resort the night before the wedding.

First of all if they stay at your resort, you will be rest assured they will not be late that next morning.

Secondly, if your resort charges $200-$300 for an outside vendor fee it's a lot cheaper to pay for one night stay.

I am glad to see this post, as I am now in the same boat. We were originally bringing a friend/photographer, but they are not able to do it, so we need to find a local vendor as I am not fully satisfied with the onsite photographers that Barcelo uses.

My next question is, who do you recommend for Riviera maya photographers?

I am getting married at the Barcelo and I am really worried about this policy. I hope they don't cause trouble because I think it's really unfair to force someone to use specific vendors especially when the vendor is of lower quality and this is the most special day of your life.

 

 

I am wondering if there is anyone getting married before me who has booked a photgrapher under the new policy?
